Anti-OTP: girl!Mordred/boy!Zara

Jun 02, 2007 04:42

She's standing on the bank of the lake, in rough men's clothes too big for her tiny frame (the shirt, left open at the neck, is positively dangerous), with her hands plunged in her hair. It's glossy black and heavy, it's nearly to her waist, it's disturbing, and she has no idea what to do with it.

zara, girl!mordred, aotp

"Y'did it again," from behind him, amused--for once, amused, after this whole horrible business.

She whirls, glaring up. "...So did you."

A slight shrug. "Got tired of being me."

"Sure."

"You? Y'just forget t'be clever and touch something y'shouldn't?"

"Of course not," sarcastically. "This happens every full moon, didn't you know?"

"I thought it was half-moons."

"And I thought you didn't deal in magic. What do you want?" pushing irritably at her hair, blown forward now by the breeze off the water.

"T'see you." He reaches into his pocket and takes out Hephaestus' pin, the strong good pin that always held long wild red hair back, and tucks it into her hair.

Mordred blinks, putting a hand up to touch it. "I--"

"That'll help." Hands go in pockets now.

"Thanks," a little soft, a little rough.

Now he's looking out at what she was seeing before, with a strange ease in this body. He has clothes now in preparation for it, trousers than fit and a shirt that buttons up, and like this looks for all the world like any other young man with loose red hair and a thin face.

She watches him quietly for a minute, then bites her lip and turns back to the water, fumbling to start a braid and not doing well at all.

"That's not how y'do it," more conversationally.

"Evidently," she says, and gives up. "I haven't had any practice."
