We did it!
As Americans, we united and shouted with one loud voice, "No Amnesty, No Amnesty!" After crashing the phone system at the Capitol and overwhelming our senators with e-mails, faxes and letters, the immigration bill has, for this session, failed and will likely not be an issue again until 2009. Of course, doing nothing will only make the problem worse, but this bill, I think, would have caused more damage than doing nothing.
As an added bonus, Senator David Vitter (R-LA), has suggested that the Senate may consider "a supplemental appropriations bill to do the significant increased enforcement that we can clearly do."
We've won this battle, but the war is far from over.

P.S. Even though Richard Burr changed his vote today, I still think North Carolina needs a new Republican Senator in 2010.
