so me bill john and reuben won first place for our group costume. suprisingly we got it all together in less than a week. we only started them the wednesday before halloween. John Bill and Reuben all had a few art classes to work on them. craig kiger and steve nagy helped. we also went to merolas room to work on them whenever more than 1 of us had study hall and john and bill skipped lunch for about 3 days to build. we also stayed after school friday until 4:30 and just barely finished when mr bace told us we had to leave. (that plus bill had work at 5) We ran into so many problems, especially with reubens box. his box, the yellow square, was all built in one day. the other 3 were done and almost completely wrapped by the time reubens was even started. craig did most of the taping and cutting for reubens box. he basically built it. so, when johns was 100% done, face hole black stripes and everything, he was helping reuben paper up his while me and bill were finishing up ours. theyre about halfway done with the paper when they ran out of rubber cement. now its about 3:45 by this point so mr merola left a while ago. the closet with all the art supplies is locked. we decide to just tape the rest of the paper onto the box. apparently when me bill and john used tape for the black stripes and reuben used it for his paper, we used it pretty quickly. we ran out of tape too. so before we could even think of a way to get the paper on, john grabs merolas stapler and starts putting staples through reubens box(im suprised he didnt scratch his arms up too bad in there.) while john was doing that, we were frantically trying to find tape. by this point we realized that only one window was open and we are currently high on rubber cement fumes. after laughing for no apparent reason and nearly passing out, we opened all the windows and went into the hallway to let the room air out. we then "borrowed" tape from the guidence office (noone was there) to finish up reubens costume just as bace was telling us we had to leave. we literally finished it within a minute of the 4:30 deadline and then cleaned up and left. thanks to craig and steve for helping build and mr merola for letting us use his room and supplies. it was craploads of fun building those boxes. but wait! theres more. i was at my bus stop yesterday and the bus was running rediculously late. i tried calling everyone i could think of for a ride, because it was about 7:45. Kevin Adams said he would come get me and told me to stay at the bus stop. in the meantime, aaron (sophmore) and his dad drove by and stopped to pick me up. i called kevin to tell him that and hes like "wtf?! im going out of my way to get you and you leave?" "you never said you were going out of the way!" "whatever. ill see you in school." So, i get there about 7:55. i put my stuff in my locker and hurry to merolas room. the boxes are all still there and theres no sign of bill john and reuben. they come running in at the first bell saying that they stopped to get batteries for johns speakers so we could play the tetris music. not only did it take a while to find them, but when they did, they had gotten the wrong ones.(speakers take Cs, they got Ds) so we almost got there too late to register and the music barely worked. only people who were like right next to us could hear it because the batteries in the speakers were almost dead. man, i still cant beleive we pulled this all off within 3 school days AND WON.
*me and bill try our boxes out and see how they fit together*
mr merola on our original idea of spraypainting the boxes: You see, if you spreay paint them, you'll need alot of paint to get an even coat, AND a place to paint. You could use the courtyard, but you'll need administration's permission and a tarp or something so you dont get paint all over the place.
*i get out of my box and put it back on top of bills*
merola: Now, i have loads of colored paper. What you might want to consider is using that. use rubber cement to attach the paper and wrap it like a big gift.
bill: *inside box* thats a great idea!!
merola: youre still in there?!?!
Left to right: john's red straight piece, reubens yellow square, bills green L shape, and my blue T. we're not in them here because it was hot inside those boxes, so we just made the wall and left it there. you can see the almost dead speakers on top of reubens box. and john standing guard in his hawaiian shirt.
