give me some songs, por favor!

Ok, so, I just bought an iTunes music card, and I want to be very deliberate about choosing the songs I'm going to buy with it. What are some songs that you suggest? I'm in to just about anything, well, not really rap and all that, but I like alternative, folk, pop, good ole rock-n-roll, jazz, rock, etc, etc. I'm kind of looking for something ( Read more... )

If you don't own Graceland (Paul Simon) already, you should!!!!
I grew up on it, and I listened to it on the way down to South Africa because it just felt right.

I've been listening to the Acid House Kings ("twee-pop") and Margot and the Nuclear So and Sos. I don't know if either of these groups are on iTunes, and if they're not, I'd be happy to send you their stuff (1 album each) via yousendit or sendspace!

Do you watch Grey's Anatomy? If so, or if not, I have a ton of random songs from Grey's (well, specific ones) such as Be Gentle With Me by Boy Least Likely To, War On Sound by Moonbabies, Wait by GET SET GO, World Spins Madly on by the Weepies, and Into The Fire by Thirteen Senses (one of my new favorite songs of all time).

There're also songs like Swallowed in the Sea by Coldplay, Forever Young by Youth Group, Boston by Augustana, Suddenly I See and Black Horse and the Cherry Tree (2 songs) by KT Tunstall, That For You by Matt Wertz (he's amazing live, he's got some other good ones that are slower, like Counting to 100 and Red Meets Blue, and then there's Everything's Right which is very upbeat and summery), Speeding Cars by Imogen Heap (Frou Frou's "Details" is a great album, if you're into that sort of thing, some songs are less weird than others), Get It Together by India.Arie is a gorgeous slow chocolatey song from the movie Brown Sugar (which is just like Love and Basketball, if you've seen that?).

Those are all just my recent favorites that come to mind right now.
Jason Mraz, Ari Hest, Josh Kelley, John Mayer, Gavin DeGraw, Jamie Cullum etc etc are great, too, at certain times.

Do you own Hard Candy by Counting Crows? If not, at least the first (title) track off of the album is worth getting for summer.

David Gray is wondrous. White Ladder is awesome, specific songs from his later albums like Nos De Caraid, Be Mine, Ain't No Love are quite cool too.

You Dance by eastmountainsouth is an old favorite of mine.
Half Acre by Hem is quite pretty.
Beaujolais Nouveau by Humpff Family is wicked cool.

Other songs from Grey's that I just remembered are The Edge of the Ocean by Ivy and Sparkle Me by Buffseeds. Plus about 92380913 more.

Kings of Convenience are cool, but try a listen first to see if you like them. San Andreas Fault by Natalie Merchant is beautiful and slow. Worn Me Down and Be Be Your Love by Rachael Yamagata are cool as well.

I Hear the Bells by Mike Doughty is a must-get song.
Selah by Lauryn Hill grows on you.

I could list tons more, but give those all a listen...maybe...if you have time...and I can send you any of them, so you don't have to buy them. Or you can buy them. I'm sure there are other essentials that I'm forgetting, obviously there are, so consider this a big sampling.

Best of luck!!

WOW, you are awesome, thanks so much!!!!

I've watched Grey's Anatomy occassionally (I was always busy when it was on), and I liked the music I heard when I did watch it. So, I'll have to check out those songs.

I've got a lot of the songs you suggested in the 4th paragraph...haha. Matt Wertz IS awesome!!! I bought one of the songs off his newest EP last night, and I have his CDs.

I plan on borrowing my friend's David Gray CD(s), or just buying them...agh...I wish music wasn't so expensive.

I might ask you for a few songs, if I can't find them on iTunes or want to listen to the entire song before I buy it. I'm trying to be good and not pirate music anymore. :)

Dude, we just need to get together and have a music party or something!
