For the Love of Cheese

So, I went to Whole Foods today to grab some milk to make lattes at work (cheaper and closer and I make a decent latte) and walked out $22 of dairy products. How does this happen? Seriously, the only non-dairy thing was the honey and espresso shots in my latte (okay, so I was having major impatience - I needed coffee NOW).

Three items of pure DELICIOUSNESS: (Yes, I am going to talk about food. It's a family curse. The apple doesn't fall far...)

Greek yogurt - (The Greek Gods brand and Trader Joe's brands are the best) Honey flavor and fig flavor. This is like the Haggen Daz of yogurt people. Super thick and rich and without that "processed" too-smooth-plasticy texture that some have. Just good regular yogurt.

3-year aged Gouda. Totally not what I was expecting. This is a hard cheese something like a cross between parmesean, gouda, and something caramelly and buttery. Crumbly but AWESOME!

Trailshead Tomme from the Port Townsend Creamery. I bought this because my dad used to live in Port Townsend and I thought he'd get a kick out of it at our Sunday dinner. But, of course I had to taste test it *smirk*. Texture like baby swiss and flavor is initially like a very mellow Swiss  - without that Swiss aftertaste. The flavor sort of blooms over time, ending with a soft, delicate and complex flavor that almost makes me think of brie.

So that is lunch today, cheese & crackers and greek yogurt. Thank goodness I'm not lactose intolerant! I called my husband and told him to start prepping the veggies cause BOY am I going to need them!

Okay, I apologize for getting so excited about cheese. Some people have wine, some are into single-source chocolate, me, I like cheese. I promise not to "go off" often.

food, cheese
