Flew into Brussels, stayed half a day, took a train to Paris. Stayed for seven days.
I suppose I should first give you the background--my girlfriend was an au pere (sp?) for a Parisian family. They were going on holiday for eight weeks, and told her she would be paid whether or not she went, as they had family coming along to a big cabin in the Swiss Alps.
So she, of course, decided not to work for eight weeks, and still get paid. Her last week of work, I stayed in her tiny flat and explored Paris, then we took off via EuroRail with our backpacks.
Munich, The Black Forest, Vienna, Venice, Rome, Pisa, Florence, Nice, Barcelona, Hungary... I know I'm forgetting a few. We went to Dachau concentration camp, Neuschwanstein Castle, the Vatican, Pompeii...
Lots! I loved it. Especially Paris. I want to go again to Paris desperately.
You'll notice that we never made it to England, Scotland, or Ireland. Ran out of time (and money!).
what an adventure! I think I would do the same thing your friend did. And lucky you getting to run around Paris. In my travels I've liked being able to be a bit anonymous. I went to Nepal with 26 people and I would very frequently break from the pack and wander off on my own. And, idk, that seems like an ideal way to experience Paris. *sigh*
Nepal! I've always wanted to go. Such a mystical place. And one of the last remaining truly stunning natural places.
And yes, wandering Paris by myself was incredible. I'm sure I saw and experienced more than I would with another person. No conversation to engage in, no one's needs or wants to consider but your own... It was beautiful.
K, I'm convinced. When I go, I'm going to make sure I can break away from Mr. Ilke (it will probably kill him cause he is a traveling baby) so that I can do some solo exploring!
It's a small city-state off the coast of Brazil, known for its phallic volcanoes and homosexual centaurs, where clothing is prohibited and everyone must drink fermented pomegranate juice six times a day.
Eh, I live in Europe and it's not like that!Maybe in certain places but not everywhere. You're funny. ;) The places and countries you went to are beautiful.I would like to go to Germany.I've been there but not enough to really appreciate.
Well, we only had so much time, and we had our itinerary to consider. The time it took for the train to get there, plus staying in the northern towns, it would have cost us time somewhere else. So we stayed in the south, the Romantic Road and all that, and went into Austria. It just made more sense.
Anything you need about any of those, let me know!
