the_beth_way “Heidi, can we talk about this?” Nathan pleaded with his wife. “Whatever my mother may have said to you…” he knew it was Angela’s doing. The day after he had told her the truth about everything Heidi had stopped visiting the hospital.
“Nathan, please don’t this. It’s too hard.” She sighed. “I have to think of the boys, where they are safest.” And in her mind, that wasn’t around their delusional father. “You want them to be safe, don’t you?”
“Of course I do,” he reached out cupping his wife’s face. “Believe me. There is no place safer than with their mother and father, together.”
Heidi’s true feelings shone through when she didn’t shy away from his touch. She still loved him deeply but with his condition - she didn’t want the boys to see him that way. “Nathan you’re sick, you need help.”
“No,” Nathan said firmly. He wasn’t going to let up on this. “No,” He sighed and looked down at the ground taking a breath she would have to see it to believe it. “You need proof? I’ll show you.”
Heidi shook her head, confused. “Proof Nathan? What are you talking about what proof could you possibly…?” her sentence was cut short when she saw her husband hovering above the ground. Her eyes went wide just staring at the phenomenon “H-How are you doing that?”
He shrugged, returning to the earth. “It’s just something I can do. I should have told you.” He had wanted to, so many times but he was afraid that her reaction would be one similar to what she was experiencing now.
“You can fly.” It was more of a statement than a question, Angela’s claim that he suffered Delusions of Grandeur seemed immaterial now. She remembered something and looked up, her eyes meeting his “The accident?”
Nathan’s heart felt heavy, that was the worst night of his life. He blamed himself over what had happened to her, the fact that she ended up in that wheelchair - it was his fault. “That was the first time.” He said truthfully “I didn’t know it was going to happen, I would have never left you.”
Heidi hugged herself trying to take all this new information in. “When I came to see you in the hospital, everything you said was true wasn’t it? Peter, the explosion…” At the time she didn’t believe. She couldn’t. It was just easier to take Angela’s word for it.
“All true.” It was a relief getting it off his chest, but he was worried about how Heidi was taking this news. She stood supposedly lost in thought. “Heidi?” he said her name softly.
His voice shook her from her thoughts. She gave him a small smile, “Show me again?”
Nathan stepped closer to her and wrapped his arms around her waist.
Heidi gasped placing his arms to steady herself, “What are you doing?”
“Showing you.” He smiled and with a gentle push he lifted them both up off the ground.
This sensation was new for Heidi. She let out a squeak, her eyes looking down at the floor.
Nathan took advantage of his wife’s distracted state and captured her lips in a kiss. Heidi froze for a moment then to his surprise moved her hand into his hair pulling him closer. Slowly drifting back down to the ground Nathan broke the kiss looking into her bright blue eyes, “Come home Heidi please? I miss you.”
Heidi hugged him tightly and rested her forehead against his “I’ve missed you too.” She only stayed away due to Angela’s concerns but there was no need to now. She laughed against his neck “I can only imagine what the boys will think.”
That made Nathan laugh too, the superman jokes would be endless but well worth it if it meant he had his family back where they belonged.
