so...it's my week "vacation" between summer semesters. I have a long laundry list of chores to get done but I don't want to do any of them. Today I just sat around and helped my kids. So, Rajah still isn't eating and I let her lose too much weight so I have to hand feed her for a few days, I have to monitor Rufus' eating habits because he looked a little thin, and now I'm doing meds once a day for the sick beardies. And get this - I go to give Buttercup her meds and she starts flailing funny so I put her on the floor to see her walk. She's def walking funny and presenting a neurological problem. This can come from calcium deficiency, but first come tremors and she doesn't do that. So I googled and came up with the dreaded adenovirus that is untreatable/uncurable. So I email the vet so that maybe she can talk me down...perhaps. Nope, she responds and says that she has the same fear/concern about adenovirus but to do everything calcium-related to see if that fixes it. Great. Poor Buttercup.
Then with Sunny...I want to convert him to a healthier diet. So he's on this trace mineral supplement and it's supposed to make them ravenous! Then you only give them seeds at certain times during the day and offer other foods the rest of the time so they'll get hungry enough to try the other foods. Well, Sunny is having none of it. He gets hungry, so he rips out more feathers! He started this Monday and he's getting really bald. He kinda takes from everywhere and not a specific area, but it's like my goodness bird. You're not eating the feathers, so why can't you destroy a fun toy instead of yourself?? A lot of times you can't get them to stop, but you can get it under control. I'm ok with the plucking as long as he doesn't cause gaping open wounds to show up. Then he'll need a collar. Oh god, this is just so much stress. I wouldn't be as overwhelmed with the bird if I didn't have to worry about my 4 reptiles.
