On Sunday Beth bought me a tank bag for my motorcycle. This is a small bag with magnets built in it to attach it to the gas tank. Very handy for caring small stuff, cell phone, house keys, ect. This morning I was getting ready to go to job 1, it was about 2:30..I was planning on coming home after job 1 and changing so I only needed to carry a few small items. Perfect for the tank bag. So I emptied out the bag, it had some packing material, a caring strap, and a waterproof cover. I left this stuff on the table and headed out the door. In the “after-action review”, I am sure that this last part will be the key factor.
I got the bike out and off to work I go..As I got almost to McDonalds by I-70 I saw a HUGE bolt of lightning, following right after by thunder.. Very intense. A second later a rain drop, or two.. I thought that I should turn around and go home and switch vehicles, but as I was about half way, nah. I continued on.. as I was getting to I-70 and I-75, the rain turned into a massive downpour. It either had hail, or the rain was so intense it was bouncing off. As I got to airport access road, I could feel the water pooling around my legs and the gas tank.. Awesome.. at this point I couldn’t see more than a foot or two. I could feel the water in my jacket, my pants, my shoes.. again, awesome.. had I been anywhere else I would have pulled off and hid out under an overpass, but I was right at the entrance to the airport, so I went ahead and kept going. By the time I got inside I was dripping wet.. I could not have been any wetter had I got into a swimming pool. So I got to work my shift today with wet socks. I sloshed with each step. I wanted to get some rain experience, but that was a bit of overkill.
