Awesome Weekend

This weekend was A+ Awesome! LoL! I went on a hurricane relief project with the BCM to Alabama and it was incredible. The amount of devastation in the area was terrible, there were hardly any leaves left on the trees that were left standing. A lot of trees were on top of houses, but at some of the mobile homes that we went to, the trees had fallen right beside the houses and had somehow spared them. The people were so gracious that we came to help them. A lot of people lost everything. There were roofs missing and the rain and wind destroyed everything that was on the interior of the houses. We worked on 10 or more yards and got them completely cleaned up. There were at least 3 HUGE trees in each yard and by the time we finished a yard, we had a pile of debris as big as the house in front of the house! There was an 80 year old widow, Mrs. Murray, that we helped and she was so appreciative - when we got to her house, it was about 2:00PM and it was about 94 degrees and she was outside picking up little twigs and putting them into the neatest little piles, then transferring them into cardboard boxes in neat little stacks - just like a typical grandma. We cleaned up her yard and she was speechless - it was soooooo great to be able to help all those people. My muscles are sore, I've got cuts on my arms and legs, and I didn't get much sleep - lol - but it was all WELL WORTH it! We had an terrific group - everyone worked hard, didn't complain, and loved what they were doing - it was a great bonding trip - we had so much fun. God is Awesome.

Also, today...well I guess yesterday since it's actually 1AM on Monday morning, I went to a great church, The Oaks Community Church, and there whole service was very good - the best all-around service that I've been to down here. It was real on every level. Then this afternoon, I went to the first meeting of the Sojourn Church plant and it is just unbelievable the possibilities of what could happen with it. They are just beginning to form the core group and I think I might join - but I will be praying about it. They are a church that is focusing on the college age group in the area (18-25) - that's their purpose - to reach the campus community, because there isn't a church that is doing that now. They are similar to a Purpose-Driven church. They will be starting small groups w/i the next month or so, then in the late spring they hope to have their first large worship service, but nothing is in place right now. So it's gonna be awesome to see how God works in this to make everything possible!

After the meeting, I went to eat with Bethany at The Chimes on the north side of campus - I had crawfish etouffee - YUMMY!!! Then I went to her house to watch The Goonies - I had never seen it before - it was a great movie! LoL!

Well, since it's 1:15AM now - I guess I better go to sleep, so that I won't fall asleep in class tomorrow.
