Carolyn took a deep breath. “Who told you that?”
“So you’re not marrying him?” Kyle asked, with what sounded to her like a nervous laugh.
“I didn’t say that. I asked who told you that.”
“So you are?” His voice was hard again.
“Was it Joel?” She asked quietly, her heart sinking.
“Joel? Why Joel? Is he okay?” His voice rose a notch.
“He’s fine,” Carolyn lied. “He misses you.”
He didn’t respond, but she heard him breathing.
“Was it him?” She asked again.
“No.”
“One of the girls?”
“Carolyn, it wasn’t any of the kids,” He said sounding irritated.
He sounded irritated!
“Don’t use that tone with me,” She said calmly, though she was frowning. “I asked you who told you I was getting married.”
“I can’t believe you’re marrying Marco! How long has this been going on?”
“That is none of your business! Who told you?” Carolyn knew she was sounding shrill.
“It is my business if it was going on while we were still together!”
“Who told you?!”
“Nina Caliente, dammit!” He snapped. “His lover!”
