on the new

well i suppose i owe this virtual thing another update.

sigh

i'm amazed that i can update this after all. You see, just yesterday my computer died. or i killed it. i dont know which is true.

Sunday, i decided, since the computer was off that i was going to clean the computer station since i had noticed it getting dirtyer for awhile. i also remembered that i had to check the connection between the cdrom drive and the motherboard/88 card. so while i was opening the computer i decided it was rather dusty (really it was) and then i also noted that i should clean it out. well, being as stupid as i was i got out the old 60s vaccumm cleaner and began to suck out all the dust (i didnt have a can of air and even then this was more convient) So after i unplugged the cdrom ide cable and the one to the harddrive i vaccumed between the cards.

when i closed it up and turned it back on it gave me the typical start up screen and then went black. some text came on and it said something to this extent:

------- 88 card: Looking for HD (insert whilry / symbol here; whirling of course)
and it just kept whirling and whirling. nothing happened. i figured, well stupid me maybe i mixed the two ide cables up (this is not unlike me) so i switched places with the cables and re booted it (other than move these two cables i did reconnect my power to my cdrom drive, i figured that would also be a problom) this time it gave me the whirling thing and then said:

no operating system detected.

as this wave of nausia washed over me (just like my life was about to end) i thought of all the things i did. i reversed the cords to their regular position and turned it on again. nothing. no win 98 screen to boot. so i figured i would call one of my more computer savvy friends. i think it turns out that a combination of the computer being more than 6 years old, combined with my stupidity and then on top of that creating a huge amount of static electricty charge...

killed my computer.

well, the HD is still intact. i took my old gateway over to my computer savvy friends house and plugged that sucker in (that is after the modem decided to smoke incident) and every piece of data was still there like nothing had happened (minus all the drivers of course) and so after that fear was abated i called my mom and told her the bad news. she wasnt all to angry, for some odd reason, and took it in perfect stride that made me feel a whole lot better. so i took my heap of junk home and then my friend came over and helped me take it apart while we attempted to assemble something of a computer from my gateway and my really, really old compaq. after two hourse and much dust inhilation (which i do not suggest) we had something resembling a computer.

we plugged it in and rather than doing anything computer like it did this.

beeeeeeep, beep, beep.

apparently, when a computer has a problom reading something while it's booting it makes beeps. a typical computer will beep once. just beep, mind you. to let you know that it is running smoothly and every piece of hardware is being read correctly. mine, did that. that beeping noise i guess is called "POST"ing.

so i went online today and looked up that type of thing. apparently that coded beeping says that something isnt cool with my video card in there (which is a RAGE ATI card) and that's funny, it was fine the last time i checked.

and that is where i stand now. luckly this laptop here that parents bought me is comming in handy. of course it is now going to turn into everyone's computer since it's the only one. how quaint. but that's what happenes.

i havent decided wheither i'm going to put effort into fixing what's left of those two computers that are taking up a whole damn corner in the living room--or not. i'm just not sure it's worth my time or energy. the biggest thing is that i know that the HD still works and i can ask someone to basically burn my HD contents to a CD that will be helpful.

all in all i'm almost glad that thing crashed. it crashed almost daily anyhow.

------------------

on other things that arnt computers, i've managed to throw up a website for vampire: the reqrium with the help of my friend dave: www.geocities.com/seventhcirclelarp/index.html

that should work now and it should also have a pretty cool banner that i just finished for it. :)

yawn, school is doing ok. but i was very tired this morning so i was glad that when i got to the classroom no one was there and i could take a nap. this was voted (later) when more people were there as a good idea and we ended up taking a 20 minute nap with the lights off in the class room before class. that was fun. when class started i just noticed that it wasnt the same without joel and scott togethere. lol. it's sorta funny but when they're together they're such a riot. maybe that's why i like sitting back there now (and the fact that ginger sits back there too is a plus) but nonetheless even if i cant concentrate very well i think it is worth it.

my grade in nihango is somewhere around a D+ which is ok, but i wish i could make it better, and the scores i just got back were a 50% on the test. maybe it will rocket up--- that's my hope.

alright, well enough of this. it's taken a good 15 minutes to type this all up and i have to go find something else to entertain myself with. particularly pictures of a certain geisha from blade of the immortal.

peace peoples, and remember
Vaccum cleaners and computers don't mix.
