...so, I bet you're all wondering why I've hinted at my computer and its problems and such the last couple of days, huh?
Anyone?
Hello?
Anyone out there?
Oh, well, to whoever reads this...here is the story of my computer's weekend.
We start where we ended last time: My brother unhooks my computer, plays games, hooks my computer back up, computer beeps and goes all whirligiggy, I take it to the shop, I go a few days on the 'rent's laptop, blahdy blahdy blah. Anyhoo, the shop said it would call me when it had the problem and an estimate of the damages, which it didn't do on Friday or Saturday. Which, last weekend being Labor Day weekend and all, meant I got to use the laptop for a full 5 days. Much like, apparently, no one's car breaks down on the weekend, no one's computer goes on the fritz on the weekend either.
But, the call does come in on Tuesday, right after I get home from work. Turns out it's nothing my brother actually did, unless whamming it down on the floor did it...because the RAM card is crapped up. I need to get a new RAM card in for the thing to work. The cost? $150. Well, well, something we can work with! I tell 'em to do it, which gets into a small argument with the folks, 'cuz they sorta wanted to try an alternative...to use the hard drive to make an entirely new computer from scratch for $400. But, I could cover it. But, I didn't have to, thanks to Dad. Thanks Dad!
So, Wednesday rolls around. After work, I get the computer from the place, all nice and shiny and cleaner than it will ever be again, and bring it home. I hook it up, and here comes the moment of truth. I turn it on...and it boots up! Happy dance! Oh, happy days are here agai...wait, can't connect to the Internet? Cue big no. (Known in China and to cat lovers as "Do Not Want"). Commence with the various and sundry ways for the computer to connect to the internet. I try everything (except the one thing that worked, because I thought it meant something entirely different). No luck. So, for a day at least, I make do once again with my dad's laptop.
Until my mother gets home, and luckily, she has a backbone. She calls the computer fixer guy, and they call back with a technician. Who tells me to unplug the router and plug it back in. Which I thought was something entirely different, and thus, didn't try it. Bingo! The net is back! Happy dance! Oh, happy days are here again...and there you have it! I am back in business, and you won't be rid of me that easily!
We end with a programming note. Some of you note on your fancy calendars that the 16th of this month, the usual "comment thread that no one comments on" day, falls on a Sunday. Of course, Sunday is Beakman day, and in this case, the *sniff* last Beakman day (not that there won't be more, just this is the very last one produced...I think I have an allergy...). So, that day is right out for comments. But then, I can't do it Saturday, 'cuz I'm doin' week 2 NFL picks that day. Thus, dear friends, your comments this month will be solicited on the 14th of this month. That would be next Friday for those of you without fancy calendars.
Meantime, see y'all tomorrow!
