So I can't draw to save my life, as I believe I've mentioned before. But occasionally the inspiration hits me to try regardless. And so I've been drawing, today, using a pic of Aaron as reference. Well, the result, quite unsurprisingly, doesn't look like him at all, but I was still super motivated to try again and keep trying until I learn something. I guess I just needed a model I actually give a fuck about. Anyway. Then I happened to mention this to Sina, who's decent at art stuff. And he went like, "trying to copy a picture like that is kinda dumb; it doesn't teach you anything, and it's not really your picture if you copied it." Err... Okay?

Not really sure what to say. I think he's all kinds of wrong there, but I can't seem to form a valid counter argument without resorting to "but I just wanna draw Aaron, you stfu & gtfo bitch!"

Funny thing is that he's perfectly cool with using tutorials, and even recommended that I do that. Pray tell, what's the difference between looking at a face tutorial or getting the proportions from a photograph? His answer was again that it's not "mine" if I "copied" an existing pic. Well, fuck me sideways. There I was, all motivated for a while.

meh, random life stuff, aaron stainthorpe
