Pointless post about being a special snowflake

Something I made for every time someone says "am I the only one who..." about something that has whole communities dedicated to it, because this is what I want to say to them :/ It's the internet, you're never the only one!

Also, unrelated, I watched Pitch Perfect. I was really, really excited about this movie because music, female leads, female friendships and humor, winning combination! I enjoyed the music but it was kind of like watching Glee, without the added bonus of at least having characters I liked already, though, like Glee, very nice femslashy potential in a way I suppose. But, just like Glee, so many, many issues. More under the cut, not a positive review so, caveat lector.

Starts off on a stellar note with really graphic vomiting and introduces our heroine who looks very cute but starts off her dialog with a "do you speak english?" questioned aimed at her Asian roommate. It gave a halfhearted reason later for her Issues in general, but she was honestly kind of a dick quite a lot. Though, on the plus side, she actually was talented at what she was doing and what she wanted to do and was driven about it which I did like.

Lots of really offensive jokes, some of them said by offensive characters, but which are also meant to be funny rather than just straight up wrong. Also, they could have cast a better singer for the lead of the male group because that was not a believable lead singer for a group that wins so much.

Two of the most powerful singers on the two teams, the African American woman and the Indian dude, sing some, but the camera can't seem to keep the focus away from the pretty white characters for more than one second :/

The male lead is a Nice Guy who keeps butting into the female lead's business, doesn't actually say he wants to date her and then, when she tells him to back off after he was crossing lines, he gets butthurt and she has to apologize to him and pretty much dedicate her all important song to him. What.

SO MUCH GRAPHIC BARFING WTH.

In conclusion, some moments that I did laugh genuinely at, music that I enjoyed, but I felt really letdown by the whole movie because I expected so much from it.

blather, art
