SPN, Music and a little rant

SPN:
SPN \o/ Almost didn't watch it live because I was afraid Ellen, Jo or Rufus would get killed off, but they didn't! Not only did they not get killed off, they got to be really cool too. Not enough Jo and Rufus, but I'll take it. There was definite Dean/Ellen subtext someone could get from this and I loved how much Ellen was in the whole episode. Poor Sammy, but that was more mature than the two have managed to be about their situation in a while. The ending was sad, but I think necessary and I really don't think they can be apart for any large amount of time. next week's promo looked really interesting too.

Music:
Two songs for sharing today, both by A.R.Rahman. On my server so right click and save please, let me know if you like them :)

Aaj Dil Gustakh Hai (Download here) from the movie Blue. This is a great song, kind of a mix of different styles, ridiculously catchy and the female singer (Shreya Ghoshal) is amazing.

Azeem-o-Shan-Shahenshah (Download here) from the movie Jodhaa Akbar. It's a song celebrating the emperor Akbar's accomplishments. It's kind of grand and I love the different instruments and voices all to the beat of those huge drums.

(The track names are generic, but the real names of the songs are in the id3 tags under album artist. Had to change it because of bots picking up my songs and putting them up on mp3 sites)

A little rant about the portrayal of women in some fanfic:
Girly!=automatically bad. Your cool female character can be cool without constantly mentioning how much she can't stand anything feminine or having to associate with other women. Feminism=equality, with freedom to choose what you want to do/be. Whether that choice is to be a housewife, an explorer, a doctor or whatever is completely and utterly up to the woman. Operative word "choice". If your female character can only be cool by being one of the guys and hating every other woman, you've missed the point. Related but not exactly the same, a character can't be pushed up by pulling everyone else down. If the authorial voice keeps harping on how every female other than the heroine is a scheming whore, it doesn't make the heroine the best, it just makes her the only passably decent person in a world full of unfortunately characterized people. It's not that there can't be horrible female characters, it's that there needs to be some balance and when all the male characters have motivations and background and redeeming qualities but the women have barely anything except a lot of derogatory adjectives, the difference in treatment is quite obvious.

Random link:
For the Merlin folks: Katie and Angel being totally adorable.

Need to finish:
The Minoan woman commission for the incredibly patient rubynye This weekend, I promise! Also, am up to the eyebrows in fanart ideas. Which is of course why I haven't even started one :/
