Life Cycle of Butterfly...

Went to Oh's Farm off Sembawang Road to get these caterpillars. For 1 kit @$2, it comes with 2 caterpillars and some leaves as food for the them. I bought 3 kits and gave 1 kit to my nieces but was told by my sis that theirs didnt survived due to not enough leaves... lol.

Here's some brief facts about butterfly...

Butterflies and moths undergo complete metamorphosis in which they go through four different life stages.
  • Egg - A butterfly starts its life as an egg.
  • Larva - The larva (caterpillar) hatches from an egg and eats leaves or flowers almost constantly. The caterpillar molts (loses its old skin) many times as it grows.
  • Pupa - It turns into a pupa (chrysalis); this is a resting stage.
  • Adult - A beautiful, flying adult emerges. There is no growth during this stage. This adult will continue the cycle and reproduce.

After almost patiently monitored the caterpillars for two weeks, these are what we observed... :)

From Caterpillars ====> Finding a spot to Pupa

A Pupa is form and Chrysalis ====> After about 1week, an adult butterfly emerge.

The wings at drying stage before it can fly...

Finally it's time to let go...!

The gals were amazed by the Butterfly Life Cycle and oso abit sad when letting go of it. They've asked me to get them some more kits... lol.
