Review Friday (plus holiday snaps)

Jan 13, 2012 20:40

First up, my blog post from Wednesday has been updated, so please go read it :)

Secondly, since I am going to try to post on a schedule, I will try to give myself a general topic to post about on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Monday will be music, Wednesdays will most likely be a review or just something blog-y, and Friday will be fashion related. Hopefully, I'll be able to stick to it and not deviate too much.

That being said, however, I am just getting back into a regular blogging routine, I will deviate this week just a touch :P

MUSIC
I have a new song obsession, Begging Me by Florrie. Gorgeous girl who is a drummer (former drummer for Girls Aloud). This song is a totally different strain from Girls Aloud though. It's very upbeat and cute.

I also adore her style. It's very chic and '90s. I adore the '90s style where the entire outfit has been meticulously planned out and matches perfectly. I go through a '90s chick flick phase every so often, and I always wish I can imitate the way they dress, however, I don't like to perfectly match, it also doesn't help that none of my clothes really match anyway :P

BLOG
I had a seriously fun time at Rosebud last week. For those who don't know, Rosebud is about 2 hours southeast from Melbourne along the coast. The beaches along the coast of Victoria (2 or more hours from Melbourne) are gorgeous. I highly recommend them to any tourists.

I only spent two days there, but it was still lots of fun. The beach was lovely, but I've been told that the beach a bit further away (a short walk) is a lot nicer. I was so tired when I got back, but it was so much fun to get away for a little while.

This was from the second day (I didn't take any from the day before since I was in the water the entire time we were at the beach). Looking through all the photos I took, I didn't take very many that I can share. Next time I go on a trip, I will take more scenery photos, usually I do, so it's weird I haven't lately.

The weather was amazing on the first day we were there. It was 40 degrees in Melbourne when we left, and about 5 degrees cooler in Rosebud, perfect beach weather. The second day saw a cool change, definitely needed, it was about 40 degrees for 2 or 3 days, it was pretty terrible. All in all, a fun trip. Another one probably won't happen for a while. I might be going to Phillip Island, but I'm not sure as to dates and costs or such yet. That would be a fun trip too, I've never been before, and I've always wanted to see the famous penguins there!

REVIEW
I've actually been to see a few movies since holidays have started, always fun.

Ides of March ★ ★ ☆ ☆ ☆
I think it makes for a good political drama, but I found this film a bit boring. That being said, I prefer films that are a bit more action or comedy oriented. All the actors are brilliant, and the script is definitely amazing, but it just didn't draw me in. I recommend this to those interested in politics. 2 and a half out of 5 stars.

Drive ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆
Excellent film. More gory (not a Saw kind of gory, more like a Tarantino/Godfather kind of gory). Ryan Gosling is a babe. Sorry, had to get that out of the way. The soundtrack to this film was also amazing. The storyline is a little lacking, in my opinion, but it doesn't really add much to the film anyway. The style this film was shot in is a little alternative, it's manages to have a level of depth which makes it a good watch, yet the plot isn't to intricate that it is difficult to understand. 4 out of 5 stars.

The Adventures of Tintin ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆
AMAZING. I adored the comic books as a child, and this movie was no disappointment. This film was based on three of the comic books, The Crab with the Golden Claws, The Secret of the Unicorn, and Red Rackham's Treasure (the latter two are a two-parter), and I am glad to report that it actually followed the comic books fairly well. Obviously, parts were cut out, otherwise, it was all coherent and the script was just brilliant. With the combined brilliance of Steven Moffat, Peter Jackson and Stephen Spielberg, Tintin turned out to be a great movie, and I really hope any other movies will be just as good. The only problem I had with this movie was the animation. It was that awkward in-between real/cartoon type of animation that really bothered me. I guess it was different, and they didn't want to go for completely live action or cartoon (like the TV series). I've heard it's quite good in 3D, so if you don't mind 3D, I would probably go see it in 3D. 4 out of 5 stars.
