Five Songs Meme

Jun 23, 2005 01:57

Instructions:
List five songs that you are currently digging ... it doesn't matter
what genre they are from, whether they have words, or even if they're
any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying right now. Post
these instructions, the artist, and the song in your blog along with
your five songs. Then tag five other people to see what they're
listening to.

khames tagged me, oh dear. :))))
But I don't think I have anything from this millennium... at least not much. So, brace yourself, there will be old stuff. And basicly a little bit from everything. I don't think that there's any point in posting pop and rock "big names" I usually listen to, so I tried to keep it not-quite-mainstream :)

I'd start the list with "Origin of love" but I guess everybody knows it already, so instead:
Anthony Warlow - I am what I am (from La Cage Aux Folles - album: Centre Stage)
Yeah, it's a show tune, sorry! LOL. This is my personal fight song, so to speak - now if I could just live by its advice... *g* I must confess that I have a taste for musical theater scores. Plus I am madly in love with Anthony Warlow's voice for years, and with his truly impressive ability to sing anything from opera to swing to country. Well, yet another amazingly talented Australian :D

Bobby McFerrin - From me to you (album: Spontaneous Inventions)
Jazz singer, composer and much, much more. He makes impossible things with his voice. I must admit that a big part of his music is too... um, complicated for me, but this one is easy to understand, isn't it? ;) I can listen to it on a loop for hours. And really, the man is a genius - more than that, he is a genius who doesn't take himself too seriously, who likes to play, and that's priceless. Oh well, I can't resist: Beverly Hills blues with Robin Williams :)))

Solaris - Wargames (album: Nostradamus - Book of Prophecies)
The Hungarian legend of symphonic progressive rock. Just like Bobby McFerrin, they are a little too sophisticated for a "bear of very little brain" - like me -, so this is probably one of their more commercial pieces because I love it *g* Solaris and Jethro Tull are the only (so called) prog-rock bands I know a little about, though. Mostly I stay on the popular side with Era, Enigma and Deep Forest...

Tito and Tarantula - After Dark (album: From Dusk Till Dawn soundtrack)
And let's have a touch of sensuality. I guess this song is rather widely known. I am not entirely sure about the movie, but this song is... aaaaargh. Diabolical, and dirty, and animalistic, and dead sexy - with our without that dance scene of Salma Hayek from the movie :)
I have a knack for movie soundtracks, and this is one of the very best film songs IMHO.

Fool Moon - Call me Al (studio demo)
Fool Moon is our young and merry acapella vocalband, and their cover of Paul Simon's song is one of my "cheer-up songs". I am quite fond of the original one as well, by the way :D

BONUS:
Katona Klári - Titkos szobák szerelme (Love of secret rooms)
I didn't want to put songs with Hungarian lyrics in the main list, but I can't resist to include this one somehow. At the moment it is the leading number of my own fictive HP Soundtrack - it's my Angsty H/D song now :)))
If your heart is strong enough you can find a (very!) rough translation behind the cut. I made it. You were warned. *hides* :)

I don't know whether any of you are inclined to do this meme, but... let's see!

Love of secret rooms

The night faked light,
and like from a burned candle,
wax teardrop fell
and cooled.

And the words became frozen,
the embraces died;
when we come before the world,
everything freezes
and you are far away again.

Don't look,
the love of secret rooms
oh already disappeared from your eyes.
Don't talk,
our faces are as they were before.

We can drift back now
into the limited ways of the morals of today,
as we are expected to do
by those who love us.

Maybe we can break out,
again and again, of the line, of our vows,
trusting - until we are betrayed -
that helping gods are sheltering us.

Don't look,
the love of secret rooms
oh already disappeared from my eyes.
Don't talk,
our faces are as they were before.

Trusting - until we are betrayed -
that helping gods are sheltering us.
Don't look,
the love of secret rooms
oh already disappeared from my eyes.
Don't talk,
our faces are as they were before,
oh and we cannot do anything against it!
Don't look!
Don't look!
Don't look!
Don't talk!
Don't talk!

We can say anything, it's too late.
