On Generosity
Profound Ponderances on Generosity--
I have always loved Wesley's quote,
Do all the good you can
By all the means you can
In all the ways you can
In all the places you can
At all the times you can
To all the people you can
For as long as you can
Wesley's quote speaks to the importance of generosity as a virtuous trait that should be lived throughout our lives. I believe that it is in giving not only of our resources, but also of our time, energy, and selves, that we demonstrate an understanding of the unity in humanity and the importance of collective efforts to assure that everyone has access to resources and opportunities for a healthful, productive life.
A review of all the major religions of the world reveals the value placed in generosity. In Matthew it is written, "Whenever you have done unto the least of these my bretheren, you have done unto me." The irony in the act of selfless giving is that in giving of our time, energy and resources to others without regard or concern about return favors or gifts, we express our love unconditionally. Yet the mere experience of the giving of such love brings us to a place and growth that ventures to the spiritual realm and helps us recreate ourselves in new and beautiful ways.
Generosity is letting the spirit of love within us, breathe life unto those around us.
The Gift....
I await what is within
wondering where it be
when suddenly an insight
washes over me
It is not in the gift
or retrieving from our life
that gives the truest light
removing hurt and strife
For reaching out we find
the pearl in the sea
through giving of our heart
and generosity
in loving of the least
in holding lonely hands
in sharing of our riches
throughout the poorest lands
in daring to take a stand
when justice is un just
working to move mountains
and spread our love and trust
for though the gifts bring beauty
to our heart and soul
it is too within the giving
that we truly find our whole
working all together
finding common ground
it is then we work for good
and harmony is found
So let us join our spirits
together not apart
giving to each other
from the seeds within our heart
sharing of the blessings
gifted from above
for through our generosity
we blossom seeds
of love
