I no longer have a job.
A memo went out last night at work that the theatre would be closing on January seventh, and all employees would be laid off. (Chris was working, and when I called he informed me of this.) Of course you could apply to another AMC and would be awarded $50 if you stayed on until closing, but fuck that. I stayed home the past two days, and really didn’t feel like working an eight and a half hour shift today. So I quit.
I called my manager Josh last night at around 8:30. The dialogue that ensued is as follows:
Me: Hey Josh, it’s me.
Josh: Hey, what’s up?
Me: So uh…we’re closing on the seventh?
Josh: Yep.
Me: Well, I think I’m just gonna quit. I haven’t been feeling well these past few days, and was planning on calling off tomorrow anyway. And the extra fifty dollars just isn’t worth it.
Josh: Umm…okay, but you know that if you quit you can’t transfer to another AMC.
Me: Yeah well the closest AMC is in Clearwater, and I don’t have a car. I’m never going to work for this company again, so it isn’t worth it to me to stay the last few days. It’s just not worth it…
Josh: Okay well…
Me: Thanks Josh, see ya later.
Josh: Okay Melissa, bye.
I AM LIBERATED FROM THE BEAST!! Seriously, I tried to like it there, and it sucks because I was just recently promoted to Supervisor, but the vicious rumors and high-school etiquette were too much to handle. I’ll find a new job. Hopefully AAA hires me. They are rumored to pay well. AMC sucks ass when it comes to pay. I was there for over a year and a half and was only making seven dollars an hour.
Call me morbid, but I like when bad things happen. Life can get so mundane that only a disaster can cure my blues-though I hardly consider this a disaster. It’s more of an excuse to quit a shitty fucking job that I’ve wanted to escape for months now.
I feel better. =)
