Tomorrow I am riding the Cambridge Big Bike Ride. Or maybe the Medium Bike Ride, since I'm doing the shorter of the two routes.
I am riding 50 miles. My plan is to ride at 15mph, so that would be a time of three hours 20 minutes.
British Cycling's
recommendation is that you should consume 0.5-1g of carbohydrates per hour per kg of body weight, so I need to have 1g x 63kg x 3.3333 hours = 210g of carbohydrates available.
2x 500ml electrolyte solutions is 74g and given the weather the odds are I'll probably get through them. Need 140g extra.
2x SIS gels is 44g
1x honey waffle is 60g (104g total)
1x 40g bag of dried mango bits is 28g (132g total)
1x banana at checkpoint is 23g (155g total)
Huzzah! Actually I'll probably carry two of the waffles 'cos they're small but occasionally fiddly to eat. Also I'm supposed to make up a recovery drink and stash it in my fridge for after the ride so I guess I should probably do that before going to bed. Food is complicated when you're on a bike for three and a bit hours, it seems.
