On preparation

Nov 18, 2014 16:34

I've been running (slightly more than) 5,000 metres as a decent way to keep in shape over the winter where it's some mix of too dark/cold/wet for me to want to cycle 30 miles or more, my normally preferred method of exercise. After a first attempt which was very poorly paced and ended up being a mixture of running and walking I've been largely been doing this in around 30 minutes, with the time decreasing from 30:30ish to 29:02 over the last month or so.

This week I'm off work, using up a bunch of extra holiday allowance I'd not taken earlier in the year. I had the feeling I was generally exhausted, so I've been sleeping in and generally trying to recover rather than trying to get a lot of stuff done. Today I ran a 5k on the grounds I didn't think I would get much exercise any other way. It felt pretty good on the way around, and when I stopped my stopwatch on getting back home, it read 27:27.

So, um, yeah. I guess I was pretty exhausted, and apparently good preparation before an athletic endeavour is benefical. Who knew?
