I am eternally after people to drag along to gigs, so probably it's best to mention this fact with at least a fair amount of lead time in order that they might be approximately free on those days.
So. In the next couple of months there are some decent folk acts coming to the Junction. Namely:
Miranda Sykes and Rex Preston on April 15th (Tuesday). Miranda Sykes is one-third of Show of Hands; she's the person who makes The Blue Cockade awesome and generally has a fantastic voice which will be the star of the show. Rex Preston, well, I've never seen him live, but on recordings there's nothing wrong with his mandolin.
Roddy Woomble on April 21st (Monday). He is/was the lead singer of Idlewild (the band isn't dead, it's only sleeping), and I like his music both in approximately solo and Idlewild forms. I'm not sure that I can explain why, in this case, I just do; it's a very comfortable sort of sound.
Phil Beer is the best sort of Beer [note to outraged persons: I'm practically teetotal and if I do drink alcohol odds are it would be wine or cider]. Oh, May 12th (Monday). He's another third of Show of Hands, primarily responsible for high-tempo fiddling and the odd bit of guitar; of the three solo sets played by Knightley/Beer/Sykes before the last Show of Hands gig I went to, I think I enjoyed his the most.
For those of you who *really* like planning ahead, I'll note we've also got
Seth Lakeman and
Bellowhead playing the Corn Exchange on the 22nd October and the 21st November respectively. Anybody who hasn't seen Bellowhead live yet and likes folk music really really ought to, and frankly even if you don't like folk music you should probably consider it.
Anybody up for any of those?
