Fallen
Sungjong was busy, replying Sungyeol’s message as he was walking down the hallway of the college. He wondered how Sungyeol, his senior in the college, was still in bed while he the new one woke up at 5 this morning. He sighed, replying,
‘Hyung, you better come here soon. I’m alone here. Woohyun and Sunggyu hyung are nowhere to be found.’
Just even he could put back his phone in his pocket, Sungyeol replied his message.
‘Forget to tell you. Sunggyu and Woohyun went to pick up someone.’
‘Someone?’ Sungjong mumbled, as he didn’t have the intention of replying.
He put his phone into his pocket and shrugged his bag to stop his strap bag from falling. Thinking how he will face his professor as he was already late for 5 minutes to class, he started walking towards the class. He was having a hard time to think of an excuse for his lateness.
Just as he was half walking and half running, Sungjong had to stop his pace as his eyes caught on many people gathering near the main entrance door. He couldn’t suppress himself from ignoring it.
‘5 more minutes won’t hurt, right?’ Sungjong sighed as he badly wanted to see what the commotion was.
He moved his legs as the people suddenly made way from someone to walk as if they were disgust of that someone. It was Sunggyu and Woohyun. No. They weren’t staring at them; they were staring at the guy walking in the middle between Sunggyu and Woohyun.
‘What this? He still mange to show up his face after what he done? Does he have no shame at all?’
‘Look there, the murder had come back to search for a new prey.’
Those were the people saying. Sungjong didn’t understand it at all. Why were they talking like that? But only one he could know, that guy’s face was warm. Although, with his cold eyes, Sungjong could see through his eyes how warm he is; the warmness that only an angel could posses.
The three of them already walked pass him without Sunggyu and Woohyun noticing him, but why was he still glued on his place. His feet were numb, his tongue was speechless and his heart couldn’t stop beating so hard. Is this what they called love at first sight? Sungjong never believe in that situation, yet.
Sungjong rummaged his pocket just to pull out his phone and dialed a number.
‘Hyung… I think I’m in love with an angel.’
*****
‘You can’t.’ Hoya’s decision was loud and clear, as he left Sungjong and Sungyeol, who were sitting at the table in college café.
Sungjong sighed and pouted. Slowly he put his head on the table; making his soft cheek touched the cold table.
‘Why can’t I fall in love with my angel?’ Sungjong whined.
‘Sorry Sungjongie, but this time I think Hoya is right. Stay away from him.’ It was odd for Sungyeol to agree Hoya’s words.
Usually, Sungyeol will be on Sungjong’s side although they fought a lot. Sungyeol was serious until he didn’t say anything funny since Sungjong gave him the call just this morning.
‘Wae?’ Sungjong pouted even more.
He didn’t understand. Sometimes he felt like his hyung were conquering him so much. All this time, they were the one who kept on setting Sungjong on blind dates but now they won’t let him date someone.
Sungjong smiled bitterly as he thought about something. Why was he feeling like that angel of his will accept him? The probability of his angel rejecting him is fifty percent. But yet, he felt happy thinking that the two of them may be together. Finally, he found his angel and there was no way he would back off.
He decided to confess to his angel today which was the first day he met him. Desperate, he asked Sunggyu about that angel of his. But Sunggyu shut his mouth shut after he heard the entire story from Hoya. The only thing he leaked was his name, Kim Myungsoo.
Still not satisfied, the latter looked for his next prey, Woohyun. But he failed when Woohyun ran from him and locked himself in the toilet. After waiting from 3 hours for Woohyun, who still didn’t want to give up, he decided to leave Woohyun in the toilet and start to target the next person.
Jang Dongwoo, the easiest one among the all.
And it was easy of course. Sungjong just had to threaten Dongwoo in telling his embarrassing secret to Hoya. Scared if Hoya will break up with him after knowing his secret, he told Sungjong about where Myungsoo always hang out.
Knowing that Myungsoo liked to stay in the library, he made his way towards the library. The moment he entered the library, he found him.
Bingo!
Sungjong pondered for a while to see Myungsoo was sitting alone at the table when 6 people could sit there. Everyone in the library was whispering as their eyes fixed on Myungsoo. Only one thing Sungjong didn’t understand. Why was everyone avoiding him except for his hyung? And why were they calling him a murderer?
Shaking off the thought, he grabbed a random book on the bookshelf and slowly sat at the same table as Myungsoo, opposite to him. Sungjong pretended to read the book as he was flipping the pages. He wasn’t reading because he couldn’t.
His heart was beating like crazy as his eyes glimpsed the figure in front of him. Myungsoo, who was flipping the page of the book, averted his sight from his book to Sungjong. The boy was keeping his head down, eyes on the book.
‘Can you sit somewhere else?’
Hearing those words, Sungjong raised his head and looked at Myungsoo.
‘Can’t I sit here?’ Besides there no others empty seats here.’ Sungjong replied without his voice shrilling.
Actually there were some empty seats at the other tables. Being pissed off a bit, Myungsoo decided to ignore Sungjong and went back skimming his book. Sungjong hid his face with the book as he heaved out a sigh of relief. That was really a close call. He didn’t want to be rejected in their first meeting.
A few minutes after that, Sungjong was getting bored so he slowly read the book that he just randomly took. He found the book very interesting although he only could understand half of it but it is worth.
‘Can you stop that?’ Again Myungsoo said to him.
And this time Sungjong was puzzled as he looked up to his face.
‘It’s disturbing.’ Myungsoo continued as his eyes on Sungjong’s fingers and he understood it right away.
Sungjong had a habit of tapping his fingers on the table in a rhythm when he was reading since he was little.
‘Ah…Mianhe.’ Sungjong apologized as he pulled his hands away from the table.
He looked down and pouted a bit. Not able to tap his fingers, he continued reading and he didn’t notice that he kept on moving his legs back and forth. And he also didn’t realize that his legs bumped into Myungsoo’s legs until Myungsoo said,
‘It hurts.’
Sungjong averted his sight under the table before shifted his eyes towards Myungsoo.
‘Mianhe.’ Sungjong said.
Then Myungsoo went back on reading while Sungjong bit his bottom lips and hit his head, mouthing ‘pabo’ . Myungsoo, who actually glimpsed seeing the boy’s actions, grinned a bit. But it was a shame that Sungjong didn’t see his smile.
10 minutes passed and Sungjong still couldn’t find a way on how to confess to his angel, who was currently in front of him. As he was trying so hard to think, he felt a surge of pain in his stomach.
Not now Please!
Sungjong bit his lips as his left hand was on his stomach. It hurt so much. Sungjong wondered if he could hold back the pain any longer. He didn’t know what to do.
‘You okay?’ Myungsoo suddenly asked noticing Sungjong was in pain.
Just before Sungjong could answer, a group of 3 boys came at their table, probably aiming at Myungsoo.
‘You really have the nerve to come back here.’ One of the boys said, making Myungsoo’s eyes averted from Sungjong to them.
Sungjong let go of his stomach after feeling the pain reduced a bit, but still it hurt. His eyes were also fixed on them. Myungsoo stayed quiet as he had no intention of replying. He ignored them as he shifted his eyes to the book.
‘Yah! I’m talking to you.’ One of the other boys, wearing a blue shirt said as he slammed the table with his hand, attracting the others in the library.
‘Can you shut your damn mouth? We’re in the library. If you want to fight, get your feet out from here.’ Sungjong answered, not knowing what will happen to him but for sure he was pissed off because everyone in the college was trying to pick a fight with Myungsoo.
The boy, who slammed the table just now, looked at Sungjong as he never saw his face before.
‘What are you?’
Sungjong didn’t utter but when he suddenly pushed Sungjong slightly on his shoulder, Myungsoo uttered,
‘Leave him alone. It’s me who you want not him.’
Myungsoo stared at them with his eyes. Sungjong just noticed Myungsoo had such cold eyes. He stood up, shoving his hands in his pockets before saying,
‘You guys are shameful, picking on the junior.’ He was mocking them.
He smirked as he got his pace out of the library.
‘I’ll make him pay for sure.’ The boy said as Sungjong ignored them and darted out the library chasing Myungsoo.
‘Kim Myungsoo!’ Sungjong shouted as he saw Myungsoo walking already far from him.
Myungsoo’s pace halted as he heard a voice calling him. He turned his back just to see Sungjong running towards him and stopped just in front of him, panting so hard. Myungsoo didn’t say a word as he was waiting for the younger to say a word.
‘Go..go out with me please?’ Sungjong managed to blurt out his words the moment he leveled his breathing.
Myungsoo looked at him, face dumbfounded. He didn’t answer. His eyes looked at Sungjong from his feet to his face.
‘What are you?’ Myungsoo swore he never met someone like him before.
Sungjong didn’t have much time because he just remembered he had class. So, he just said,
‘Meet me at the park near the cafe at 7 tonight, please.’
Just before Myungsoo could reply a word, Sungjong interposed,
‘I’m late for class. See you tonight.’
He left Myungsoo, who was still perplexed as he ran towards the stairs.
‘What just happen?’ Myungsoo snickered as he found out the younger was funny.
He put on his earphones, turned on his ipod and walked away. Myungsoo felt a bit funny because a feeling tingled in his heart. The smile that he just put on his face, he couldn’t fade it off for some reason. Thinking about that younger, made him hummed a melody although he could be a bit annoying.
*****
It was 6.45 and Sungjong was already sitting on a bench in the park, kicking his feet for Myungsoo. He never knew he could be so bold, asking Myungsoo out. He was always known as the shy boy for 19 years he lived. Love really changed someone.
Sungjong wondered will Myungsoo come. Will he or not, Sungjong already made his mind to wait for Myungsoo. He had to admit it was a bit cold being there.
An hour passed, and he was still waiting. He craned his neck just to find Myungsoo but there was no sign of him. He sighed; as he pulled out his phone and played a random game that he never knew he had on his phone to kill the time.
Bitting his lips was he as the cold wind came greeting his skin. He rubbed his hands together to make some heat to warm himself but it wasn’t enough. The time was already near 10 and yet he was still waiting. He received a few calls from Sunggyu and the others but he didn’t answer them. He knew they must be worried sick of him. He came to Seoul alone, only having Sunggyu, Woohyun and the others to take care of him. For them if Sungjong didn’t come home yet was not in their history. He never came home late. He was staying at Sunggyu’s house which Woohyun always came to hang over. Although Woohyun would keep on saying him was really disturbing when he wanted to spend time with Sunggyu, he cared about him.
He sneezed for the twice time as he was really cold. If he stayed there just another second, he swore he would freeze to death. Sungjong was all alone at the park and he glimpsed at the phone screen just to see the clock was already 12 sharp.
Looking at the clock, he was pissed off a bit. He bit his lips as he just realized how stupid and foolish he was. He stood up, making his way back home. He regretted waiting there like an idiot but not once he thought of letting Myungsoo go. He didn’t know why he felt so attached to Myungsoo.
Sungjong didn’t notice when he walked away from the park, someone was watching him from a distance.
*****
The next day, Sungjong came to college with his eyes half opened. Sunggyu couldn’t stop nagging at Sungjong for coming home at midnight last night. Woohyun was having a fun time laughing to see Sungjong running from Sunggyu, blocking his ears with his hands. Sungjong didn’t even have a chance t sleep last night because Sunggyu kept on babbling about the danger in Seoul. Woohyun, who decided to sleep at Sunggyu’s house, had to accompany him as he claimed he won’t sleep without Sunggyu.
In class, Sungjong fell asleep several times, and he was lucky because all his professors let him off the hook just because his cute face. After finished all his class, Sungjong again forced Dongwoo to tell him where was Myungsoo. This time, he promised Dongwoo that he would arrange a date for him and Hoya.
Finally he got Myungsoo’s whereabouts and went to his class. He didn’t know whether he should wait for Myungsoo to finish his class or not. But later on he already promised Woohyun to accompany him shopping. Putting on a deadpan expression, he knocked the door before coming in.
‘Sungjong, what can I help you with?’ The professor asked as Sungjong bow to him.
‘I...I want to see Kim Myungsoo for a while.’ His words made all eyes were on him.
Sungjong could see almost everyone was whispering and then he spotted Myungsoo staring straight at him.
‘Ah..sure.’ The professor gave Myungsoo the permission to step out of class for a while.
Myungsoo stood up and followed Sungjong out of the class. He just leaned on the wall, waiting for Sungjong to say what he got to say to him.
‘I waited all night for you. Don’t you how cold is it last night?’ Sungjong was really pissed off.
‘I never say I would come.’ Myungsoo answered.
Sungjong just remembered he didn’t confirm with Myungsoo yesterday. He sighed, realizing it was actually his fault for being so foolish. He just pouted, not knowing what to say.
‘Is that all you want to say?’ Myungsoo asked as he smiled looking at the latter’s pout.
Sungjong just nodded. Myungsoo got his feet moving from the place towards his class. He stopped his pace half his way and turned his face towards Sungjong just to utter something.
‘Next time, bring a sweater when you’re going out at night.’
Myungsoo left him there, dumbfounded. He wondered why Myungsoo said that. How did he know that he wasn’t wearing thick clothes last night? Thinking it about 15 minutes, he only came out with an explainable reason. Sungjong curved up a smile on his visage before mumbling,
‘He did come last night.’
*****
Feeling tired a bit, Myungsoo pushed the security code and unlocked his door. His whole body was really fatigued. Going to part time work after college was not the best choice for him, but he had to. It’s not like he didn’t have money but he just wanted to kill time, keeping himself busy, trying to forget all the nightmares that happened.
He took off his shoes but then he felt weird. He sniffed something in the air. He knew the smell, very well. Something was burning!
Myungsoo darted into the kitchen, where the smell was coming from. Shocked was he to see Sungjong was there and the frying pan was burning. Not having time to ask what Sungjong was doing in his own house, he took a bucket of water and threw the water to the frying pan. Luck wasn’t on Sungjong’s side because he was soaked.
‘What are you doing?!’ Myungsoo was dumbfounded as he was pissed off looking his kitchen almost got burned.
‘Cooking?’ Sungjong answered that.
‘I meant what you are doing in my house.’
‘Woohyun hyung chased me out the house when I ruined his surprise for Sunggyu hyung.’ Sungjong whined about how silly Woohyun could be when it comes to Sunggyu.
Myungsoo sighed, never knew that latter could bring him a lot of problems.
‘Listen here. Your problem is not mine. So get out.’ Myungsoo was tired to play with Sungjong. He never asked for him to be here.
‘But..but…’ Sungjong didn’t know where to go.
It was late already and he couldn’t go to Dongwoo because he was spending time with Hoya. And Sungyeol was no where to be found. He had no one else. If he goes back to Sunggyu’s house, Woohyun will kill him for good. Myungsoo’s glare rendered Sungjong to obey and got out of Myungsoo’s house.
Sungjong flinched when Myungsoo slammed the door in his face. Pissed off, Sungjong kicked the door but not hard enough until Myungsoo could hear. Not knowing where to head to, he just perched in front of Myungsoo’s apartment. He pouted and mumbled,
‘You’re so mean. At least let me dry my clothes.’
The moment he said that, Myungsoo opened his door and uttered,
‘Hurry up and change your clothes.’
Sungjong just smiled and tailed Myungsoo inside. He changed into Myungsoo’s clothes. He was very happy. He could smell Myungsoo’s scent on the clothes. Myungsoo only gave him a chance to change his clothes, only that. He still needed to go off somewhere. Myungsoo entered his room just to get a towel for Sungjong to dry up his hair but when he got out, he found Sungjong sleeping on the couch.
Myungsoo just sighed as he ran a hand through his hair.
‘What a mess?’ He mumbled as he covered Sungjong with a blanket.
His eyes were gazing at the latter’s face. Staring for a while, a smile curved on his visage as he just realized how pretty Sungjong is.
*****
Sungjong opened his eyes as he could feel the light rays from the window shinning over him. He pulled himself into a sitting position. Noticing he was on the couch in Myungsoo’s house, he must’ve fall asleep. He rubbed his eyes with the back of his hands before going into the kitchen, looking for Myungsoo. His eyes caught a note on the fridge.
Leave after you eat breakfast.
He could stop beaming like an idiot as he read the note and saw a plate of toast on the table with a glass of juice beside the plate.
Myungsoo already went to college. As he was buying a cup of coffee at the college’s café, he bumped into Sunggyu, looking worried at a table. By seeing into Sunggyu’s face, he was pretty sure he didn’t know where Sungjong took off to. Not able to keep seeing his hyung got so worried about that useless kid, he sat at him and said,
‘Hyung, he’s with me.’
‘Who?’ Sunggyu looked pondered as he looked at him.
‘Sungjong. He came to my house last night.’ Myungsoo explained, sipping his hot coffee.
‘Really??’ Sunggyu was so damn worried about that younger.
‘Well more like breaking into my house.’ Myungsoo sighed; thinking about the damage of Sungjong did to his kitchen.
‘I’m glad then.’ Sunggyu heaved out a relief sigh.
His heart felt ease now. He really should give Woohyun a long lecture for kicking out Sungjong. It wasn’t his fault. He was the one who was about to choke Sungjong so he would tell him what Woohyun was planning. The two of them were in a momentary silence as Myungsoo kept on sipping his coffee.
‘That kid.’ Sunggyu’s words received Myungsoo’s attention. ‘He really likes you.’
Sunggyu had to admit that. He knew Sungjong wasn’t someone would fall in love with a random someone. Once Sungjong likes someone, he will keep on loving that someone and no one can stop that.
‘He won’t if he knew the truth.’ Myungsoo replied, grabbing the cup of coffee close.
‘There is no truth in the first place even you knew about it.’ Sunggyu really wanted to help Sungjong.
Myungsoo didn’t want to hear it any more. He was sick being in relationships. It brought him pain and also to the people around him. He stood up, trying to make his way out of the place, but Sunggyu’s words stopped his way,
‘At least give him a chance.’ Sunggyu also knew that Myungsoo won’t let anyone stepped into his heart. No one managed to do that ever.
‘What if everything got mess up again?’ Myungsoo didn’t want to hurt Sungjong, not even once he would.
‘That kid is stronger than you look.’
Myungsoo didn’t reply a word. Instead, he kept his mouth shut and got his feet off the café. A smile appeared on Sunggyu’s face.
‘What’s that supposed to mean?’ Sungyeol showed himself after eavesdropping, so did the others.
‘That guy is full of surprise.’ Hoya said as he smile, understood what Myungsoo’s answer.
Meanwhile, Dongwoo and Sungyeol just exchanged sights not knowing what just happened.
‘Sungjong really did it this time.’ Woohyun came, sitting beside Sunggyu with a smile hanging on his face.
Just a few minutes, Myungsoo left the place, he pulled out his phone to check out the message he just received. It was from Sunggyu. He grinned reading it.
Sungjong is at the library.
Sungjong was indeed in the library. His eyes were roaming for books. Thanks for coming late to college, his professor gave him two assignments. And he also had been charge to arrange a song for the upcoming college musical. He didn’t even know a thing about arrangement.
As his eyes were searching at the bookshelf, he accidentally tripped on something, making he fell. But he never thought the floor could be so soft. In the end, he realized he fell on someone. It was Myungsoo.
‘Mianhe.’ Sungjong apologized as he quickly stood up.
‘It hurts.’ Myungsoo complained.
Sungjong just pouted before answering,
‘It’s your fault for sitting on the floor.’
Sungjong actually tripped because of Myungsoo’s leg on the floor.
‘Are you trying to kill me?’ Myungsoo asked.
He didn’t know that Sungjong would fell on him hard.
‘I said I’m sorry didn’t I?’ Sungjong whined.
Sungjong decided to ignore Myungsoo for once because he really had no time to be fooling around. He needed to finish all his assignments by today. He took a book out from the shelf and flipped the pages to see whether it was the book he was looking for or not. He didn’t realize when Myungsoo stood up and stayed beside him.
He didn’t notice that Myungsoo’s breath brushed his hair. He only noticed it when Myungsoo put a piece of note on the book he was reading. There were numbers on the paper.
‘What this?’
Myungsoo’s didn’t answer to Sungjong’s question. Instead he just smiled and walked away. Sungjong was perplexed and dumbfounded. He was trying his hard to think what the 6 digits numbers on the paper meant.
Just before he wanted to give up, pondering about that mysterious numbers, he received a message from someone he didn’t know.
‘I changed my security code.’
Sungjong’s eyes widened as he was shocked that Myungsoo sent him a message. He was confused at first. Did Myungsoo just accept him? He didn’t want to be in this confusion. He wanted to make everything clear. He darted out the library and looked for Myungsoo.
As he was running at the corridor, he caught sight of Myungsoo on the lower floor. Knowing, he won’t make it in time if he went down the stairs because Myungsoo was about to leave the college, he shouted,
‘Kim Myungsoo!’
That really caught attention of all the students downstairs. He didn’t care when people were staring him or calling him a weirdo. At least he caught Myungsoo’s attention. He was looking at Sungjong.
‘Do you really mean it?!’ He raised his voice, making everyone looking weird at both of them.
‘This kid really wants to die.’ Myungsoo bit his lips as eyes were on them.
He quickly pulled out his phone and dialed a number.
‘Oh?’ Sungjong noticed his phone was vibrating.
He picked it up, only to hear Myungsoo’s voice.
‘Have you gone crazy?’
Sungjong smiled as he was right. It was really Myungsoo who sent him that message.
‘Don’t be so mean.’ Sungjong pouted.’ I only wanted to confirm it.’
Sungjong could hear Myungsoo chuckling through the phone.
‘Lee Sungjong.’ Myungsoo looked at Sungjong at the corridor while Sungjong too was eyeing on him.
The latter just opened his ear to hear what Myungsoo had to say,
‘I’ve fallen for you.’
