[RL with Lilith and Jezebel]

Jan 22, 2011 21:52

Albion was a neutral country, where Methuselah and humans could both coexist in uneasy harmony. It was a far more powerful territory than Carthage, as well. Though it was at peace with the Vatican, it was far from being dominated by it ( Read more... )

Jezebel took in the sight of the building with a sort of detached fascination; this entire world so far seemed very different from London, and it made him slightly uneasy to be in such unfamiliar territory.

He returned Radu's hesitant smile; he imagined that whatever unease he might feel, Radu's would only be more intense. After all, it was his neck on the line if he did go to work for the Vatican.

Of course this wasn't a trap. Lilith was nothing if not a woman of her word. She had no interest in helping the Vatican put down an "evil vampire". She wished to start them on the path to co-existence. What better way would that be than to have one helping them?

Lilith showed up a few minutes after them. She was dressed in pants and long sleeved shirts with her hair pulled back. Not that it made a difference. She still stuck out but, it was the thought that counted. She tried to be as covert as possible. "Radu. It's good to see you are well with my own eyes." She smiles warmly looking between the pair. "Is this a friend of yours?"

Radu hadn't been too worried about Lilith. It was the Vatican itself that he was concerned might have sent troops or tricked him into thinking it was Lilith coming when it wasn't at all.

When she entered, he got to his feet, bowing respectfully to the beautiful woman.

"Lilith...it's good to finally meet you in person," he said, slightly sheepishly. "This is Jezebel Disraeli, a friend of mine from the community. He's not from our world, but... He's been a great help to me recently."

Jezebel didn't bow as Radu did, but he smiled politely. "A pleasure to meet you," he said; he vaguely remembered speaking with this woman in the past. She had seemed to be a kind person from what little interaction he'd had with her.

Lilith smiled softly. She had a vague recollection of speaking with him once as well. It didn't give her an idea of what to expect but, for now this was fine. "It's a pleasure to meet you as well." Lilith headed over to table to join them. "I trust you've both been well?"

Radu sat, watching the woman with wary curiosity. He wasn't completely sanguine about any of this, but he was here and receptive.

He was glad not to be alone, though.

"Very well, all things considered," Radu said wryly. "Dietrich put a spell on me, forcing me to be a puppet, but a lucky chance took me from his control and gave me a chance to recover."

Jezebel nodded at Lilith's question, also watching her curiously; although she had seemed perfectly kind the one or two times that they'd spoken, he wasn't a trusting person by nature. Besides, she was decided Radu's future and safety...something he might not admit out loud that he cared about, but he did.

Lilith sighed softly. Of course things had gotten to that point. Dietrich never was one to miss an opportunity. "I am sorry things happened the way they did. I am glad you got the chance to escape however this isn't what we are here to discuss. It's my understanding you were offered a position in the Duchess of Milan's agency? Are you seriously considering that?"

Radu nodded, straightening a little as Lilith set aside what he had gone through. She was right, that wasn't what they were here for, though he didn't feel as if she were simply dismissing it.

"One of her agents...Abel... told me that I should join, but I'm not sure that the Duchess herself even approves," he admitted. "I don't really know what to think of the offer. I..." He hesitated. "I want to make up for my crimes, not become a prisoner of the Vatican."

[OOC: And Jezebel's going to sit things out for a bit and hop in if there's something he needs to reply to, so back to Lilith for now!]

"There are many ways to do so without working for the Vatican." While Lilith wanted to believe Radu could join without incident there was always the matter of the Inquistion and Cardinal Medici. Some of his agents were more open minded than others but, that man was stubborn in his stance against vampires. He would never take it quietly. "I am concerned even if the Duchess was open minded enough to allow it, her elder brother would be less approving. I do not wish to see you go from one bad situation to another. I believe at this point anything you do in our world would have to be kept in secret."

Radu was almost relieved that Lilith had said that. Abel's words had made him start to wonder if maybe his fears were unfounded, but it was well known that there were those within the Vatican who hated Methuselah. He had seen the Inquisition at work himself, and couldn't imagine how they could view a Methuselah joining a Vatican organization as a positive thing.

"Yes...I think that's true," he said quietly. "The Orden won't let me go, and the Vatican won't accept me. Even if Father Abel is optimistic, and says many people in AX aren't human, that doesn't mean it's the place for me."

He shrugged, sighing. "So I don't know if there's anything I can do. I want to help, if I can do something concrete, but I see no point in moving back to my world permanently at this stage. It'll only end in my death, or my body being turned against you once more."

"Neither of those things are what we want," Lilith says sincerely. She had wanted to be wrong about Radu paying the price for believing in the Orden's lies. She would never wish that kind of torture upon him for failing to believe her. "At this point, you may be better off staying away. I truly believe things will change soon enough though. I don't think any of this is permanent." Though she was not sure if the changes would be for the worse. The saint just knew the change was inevitable. People were growing tired of living in this world. Someone was bound to set in motion a new path soon.

Radu's hand moved under the table, subtly curling around Jezebel's. This conversation was rather difficult for him, touching on deep emotions that he wasn't comfortable expressing, so he was trying to hide behind logic and politeness.

He fished in his pocket with his free hand and pulled out a cigarette, placing it between his lips and lighting it with a snap of his fingers. The nicotine helped a little, and he sighed through a cloud of smoke.

"What sort of change?" he asked quietly.
