He returned Radu's hesitant smile; he imagined that whatever unease he might feel, Radu's would only be more intense. After all, it was his neck on the line if he did go to work for the Vatican.

Lilith showed up a few minutes after them. She was dressed in pants and long sleeved shirts with her hair pulled back. Not that it made a difference. She still stuck out but, it was the thought that counted. She tried to be as covert as possible. "Radu. It's good to see you are well with my own eyes." She smiles warmly looking between the pair. "Is this a friend of yours?"

When she entered, he got to his feet, bowing respectfully to the beautiful woman.
"Lilith...it's good to finally meet you in person," he said, slightly sheepishly. "This is Jezebel Disraeli, a friend of mine from the community. He's not from our world, but... He's been a great help to me recently."

"Very well, all things considered," Radu said wryly. "Dietrich put a spell on me, forcing me to be a puppet, but a lucky chance took me from his control and gave me a chance to recover."

"One of her agents...Abel... told me that I should join, but I'm not sure that the Duchess herself even approves," he admitted. "I don't really know what to think of the offer. I..." He hesitated. "I want to make up for my crimes, not become a prisoner of the Vatican."

"Yes...I think that's true," he said quietly. "The Orden won't let me go, and the Vatican won't accept me. Even if Father Abel is optimistic, and says many people in AX aren't human, that doesn't mean it's the place for me."
He shrugged, sighing. "So I don't know if there's anything I can do. I want to help, if I can do something concrete, but I see no point in moving back to my world permanently at this stage. It'll only end in my death, or my body being turned against you once more."

He fished in his pocket with his free hand and pulled out a cigarette, placing it between his lips and lighting it with a snap of his fingers. The nicotine helped a little, and he sighed through a cloud of smoke.
"What sort of change?" he asked quietly.
