Angela's Love/Hate Relationship with FanFiction

Feb 07, 2009 21:42

I am writing because, as of late, I have been ridiculously bogged down in fanfiction angst. And no, I'm not referring to the kind that happens within the plot of the stories. I am, unfortunately, referring to my personal angst over the whole fanfiction world.

I've decided to blab about it here because I can. It is my blog after all.

I suppose I'll ( Read more... )

Hmm....Ange, you sound really upset...lol.

I can't really say much because I'm not a ff reader. I tried reading some, but I can't seem to get into it. So I'm probably one of the very few people in the 'Twilight' community who isn't obsessed with Dark Edward and just recently found out what 'unicorn' means.

I wish people would just review if they see something they like. I make all these Rob videos and I really appreciate it if people review. People should understand how much that means to us....

Anyway, I hope I'm not making you angrier. And keep writing....you are definitely very talented.

Hey Cilla. I'm just irritated. I don't particularly like having angst over an inanimate object. LOL. Thank you for your compliments, of course. That's the thing. I know I'm a talented writer ... I just get bogged down in my inherent inability to obtain large amounts of reviews. I know it's bratty of me, but as you know from your Rob vids, I put a lot of work into my stories ... I feel like maybe it's in vain if no one is interested enough to review. SIGH.

You are amazing, though. Of course. :)

I totally get your aggravation with lack of reviews, but I just keep telling myself that the validation (yes, I'm insecure enough to need validation) I get from a handful of readers that do review is worth that time, effort and energy to continue writing. Though I'd imagine that that would change once Ayden arrives.

And the WA references. *sigh* I'm twiddling my thumbs waiting to see if anyone goes for the throat and the obscure "my girl" line in my most recent OS. It's so obscure that I didn't even notice it until the 3rd or 4th time I read through it. However, the WA / AG fangirls out there are fckn rabid!

Lastly, I'd like to just say that I feel quite privileged to have been mentioned up there *points up towards journal entry* I love ya back, bbs! *sends hugs*

So, random vent about my WA Reference Angst that might make it make a bit more sense:

I have a really dark and angsty fic working. I sent it to a friend to peruse so I could see what people thought of it. Though I heart her like whoa, her first response was that it was too much like Wide Awake.

Except that it doesn't involve nightmares, crazy Phil, unicorns, sleep deprivation, drug use or cookie recipes.

What was it, you ask? Bella has a potty mouth and happened to grab a hoodie to go out into the cold night in.

*insert really annoyed rant here*

Anyway, of course you are in the listing, lady!! And, your point about the few readers who are MADE OF EPIC PROPORTIONS OF WIN was what I was getting at at the end there. Le sigh. Damn you, fanfiction. *wink*

Ok, joke reply aside. You know how I feel about you, so I would hope that us good reviewers are enough, but sometimes, I think Twilight fandom needs to get spanked. Swear to God. Like, they just need one hell of a dose of reality.

You know I heart you for reals, H. :) I most definitely appreciate you guys that do review and often, and until I want to scream, I will continue to write. I should perhaps warn you that I will probably take a posting hiatus at some point to get back to focusing on my novel. My poor protagonist is stuck at a rather integral moment. :)

if you ever quit writing....you better still keep writing and just email me the chaps bc i cant live without knowing what happens to eds and bells in tbe. if you think im joking--well you know me, so you know im not.

that being said, thanks for saying you love me--everyone loves a good affirmation. which is why people need to fraccking review. i know how you feel and i share in your angst over it. but at some level i can't care because as long as the people i love love what i write, thats enough to me. i mean, im sure steph meyer would love LLI. she practically wishes it was used instead of breaking dawn. i mean come on. she told me so ;)

ok disclaimer:s.meyer did not actually tell me so. i dont own her, her words, or her characters. in fact, i really only own the laptop im writing on.

I absolutely understand what you mean about reviews - it's the main reason I review pretty much everything I read (unless I really, really hate it :P). The feedback is definitely validating, and it's also just really nice to know that your work is appreciated and that people are reading it. You are a fantastic author - I've told you that several times though :P If you stop writing The Butterfly Effect or Tahoe Tanglings, I'd have to hunt you down.

*hugs* Try not to let them get you down to much - oh and squeal! for being one of the people you mentioned! :) You are made of epic win.

:) Thanks, love. TBE is actually down to one chapter left, writing-wise, though there are still several that need to be posted. How many? Hmmm ... *wiggles eyebrows at the mystery* As for Tahoe, HammondGirl is up to bat at the moment and we're working out the next chapter as we speak.
