linky linky al'Italia

Sep 14, 2006 12:35

today i've been poking around on Google Maps... & googling the hell out of some italy & stuff. i have learned much, & seen much. i shall organize it here & share it w/ you in a cool, linky format. i'm gonna *heart* this page & fill it in w/ links & stuff over the next few weeks. so if you are intrigued, & want to travel vicariously w/ me, check back here periodically for updates & stuff.

Vicenza: palladio's villas
vicenza is 3.5 hours north of florence, near venice. angelo & i could take the train up, maybe swing by venice if we have the time... anyway, greatbuildings.com is a fabulous architectural repositoire o' infos. & they welcome photo contributions. coincidentally, they have no photos for some of palladio's villas... that'd be fun. i'd feel all special & stuff if i was a contributing photographer for an architectural web resource.

Sto cercando sul'internet informazioni d'Italia per il nostro viaggio. Ho trovato un bel sito, www.greatbuildings.com. Lo conosci? Ho visto che il sito ha bisogno d'una foto di Palazzo Thiene da Palladio. Potremmo farlo!

Florence: tombs of the medici by michelangelo, piazzale michelangelo, etc etc.

San Gimignano: medieval fortress town w/ towers- daytrip from florence?

Rome is only a 4 hour drive south from florence, probably much quicker by train. Spanish Steps, Vatican, Sistine Chapel, Bernini's St. Teresa d'Avila

Rome is less than an hour from the ocean. i think we'll easily be able to rent a car & galavant around Lazio for a day or two like fabuLor & i discussed yesterday.

Lazio:
the park of monsters in Bomarzo the photos on this site are terrible- but i can see the potential therein... potrei fare le foto molto meglio!
medieval lakeshore villages- Lago Bracciano
more Lago Bracciano

villa d'este, Tivoli

Hadrian's Villa, Tivoli

linkage, italia 2006, viaggio
