Azula, who had been resting upstairs (she had only had one meeting that day, and had left the Fire Nation as soon as possible), lifted her head when she heard the voice. Was it really...?
"Ryan?" she called out, her voice harsh and irritated. So he had talked about coming here and annoying her, and she hadn't expressly told him not to; that didn't mean she'd thought he'd actually go through with it.
Not that it really mattered, of course. After all, she was positive that she had been right when she'd guessed that he'd get bored and leave. It would only be a matter of time.
Ryan winced at the tone - man, it sounded like Sharpay after a bad trip to the salon - but nonetheless followed the sound of Azula's voice, heading upstairs.
When he saw her and her pile of blankets, he just grinned and put his hands on his hips. "I told you I'd show up."
"Great," she snapped, pointedly shifting so her back was too him. Instinctively, she ran a hand through her hair; it was a bit messy, as lately she hadn't been taking as much time to make herself look presentable unless she was planning on appearing before an audience.
Like he wasn't used to this kind of treatment. He just smiled and moved to the wall Azula was facing, sitting down and leaning against it. "I don't want anything. How are you holding up?" He made a face, "I should have brought you a brush."
Ryan was a master at talking to ladies, obviously. He held up his hands in a placating manner. "I didn't mean you didn't! I just figured... you know. Ruling a country and all, you'd have your hair tied back or something." He shrugs. "I'm really sorry, I didn't mean it like that."
"Obviously I take it down sometimes." She turned again, so that she was facing the wall rather than him. "Did you just come here to mock and insult me, or do you have some other purpose?"
Way to go, Ace. Ryan rubbed the back of his head. "I didn't mean it like an insult and I'm really not trying to mock you. You seemed really upset and I... wanted to help you." He looked around. "Maybe I can clean up, or something? Get you something to eat or something?"
Ryan didn't say anything for a minute, just frowned and looked around the room a bit. "Oh. Do you think... maybe it's just this shadow thing going around? Maybe that's why you can't reach her. Everyone on the community was saying how worldhopping was... not working for those places."
"Don't be stupid." She gave a haughty sniff. "She would have come on the community if she could, even if it was just for a second. And she would have answered her phone, but it's not working at all." Azula reached into the mess of blankets and pulled out an iPhone (Kaito had bought it for her during a virus that made them think they were dating, and the Fifth Doctor had fixed it so it could be used across worlds). She pressed #1 on the speed-dial and held it up for Ryan to listen to the recorded message: "the number you have reached is not in service".
"Well, maybe she couldn't get on the community, so she couldn't tell you something was wrong? And that's why her phone isn't working?" He chewed on his lip. "I don't know. The most that's happened to me was Sharpay and Troy forgetting about the community. Nothing like this." At least he was completely honest when he said, "I'm really sorry."
"She can't get on the community because it took her!" Azula was dangerously close to shouting at him now, so she took a deep breath. Her next words were quieter, but not much calmer.
"If she ever comes back, she will have forgotten."
He winced and rubbed the back of his head. "...Well, um." What was he supposed to say to that? "Maybe she won't? I mean, haven't people come back after a long time and remembered everything? Why does she have to forget?"
