The Causeway: Early Friday Morning

Oct 02, 2009 12:30

Layla had gotten up early this morning and out the door as soon as humanly possible. She swung by the Perk and J'GOB before arriving at the end of causeway with her items in tow.

That being done she settled down and waited for a certain someone to show up.

[For the one visitor coming for Layla]

Somewhere in New Jersey there was a battle going on. Sentinels had gotten close to their current hideout so Ruby and a small contingent of mutants had headed out to distract them as the rest of the team moved out.

The battle was going well for them when unfortunately a Sentinel had gotten the drop on Ruby just as Fitz was making a portal to make all of them disappear.

Next thing she knew she was falling backward through the sky and landed hard on the pavement. When she peeled herself off the road and rolled into a battle ready position, she suddenly realized that all the sentinels were gone. As was her friends.

And for that matter, New Jersey.

"What the-?"

Yep. Right on time.

"Hey there Ruby," Layla said cheerfully. "So glad you had a chance to drop by."

"Layla?"

What the fuck?

"Where the hell am I?"

"You're with me," Layla said simply. "You got knocked into one of Fitzroy's portals. And through a large amount of coincidences in the timestream continuum you ended up here with me during Parents Weekend."

Yeah, she was looking a little smug about that.

"Coincidences huh?" Ruby smirked. "Gosh. I wonder how that happened."

"Oh, you now. A little nudge here. A little push there," Layla smirked back. "Nothing too hard."

"I'll bet," Ruby said walking over and giving her old friend a hug. "Seems like a lot of work just to get me here."

"Well I might have missed having someone around from home to talk to," Layla admitted as she hugged her back. "Besides there are some other people here I'm sure you'd love to meet. Got you coffee. Shade-grown Guatemalan with two creams, one sugar."

"Other people?" Ruby asked suspiciously. "Like who?"

"Oh, you'll see," Layla said dismissively. "I've got to go to my history class. How about I walk you into town and you can go to the picnic and I'll hook up with you later."

"What other people, Layla?" Ruby asked again. "Don't be this way. I hate it when you're this way."

"Hush. You worry too much. Would I really drag you here if it meant getting you into trouble?"

Hmmph.

"Yes. You would."

"Oh, relax," Layla said giving her a bump with her elbow. "It'll be fun."

"The problem with you, Miller," Ruby said with a small sigh. "Is that you have a very strange definition of fun."
