movie masochism

Why do I do this to myself?

NATIONAL TREASURE 2 has a running time of 2 hours and 4 minutes. By my calculations that is approximately 2 hours longer than it needed to be, with a margin of error of 4 minutes.

I'm going to bed.

I've resolved to no longer subject myself to watching movies with Nicholas Cage in them (which means I didn't watch the first National Treasure, either). It's been working out really well so far.

Firstly: HI! I've missed you!

Secondly: I can't say I disagree with your Nicholas Cage policy. 90% of the time he is terrible, and/or the film is terrible. I do like a few of his movies, though. A couple. Here and there.

In this case, I really don't think Cage is the problem. The movie is actually too awful for him to ruin. It suffers from an incurable and unforgivable malady: Really Bad Writing.

There must be a reasonable and/or hilarious reason why you watched this movie.

Please advise.

I don't know if it's reasonable and/or hilarious but:

I didn't hate the first NATIONAL TREASURE. I certainly didn't think it was especially good, but I remember it being at least moderately entertaining. So I thought I'd give the sequel a chance, even though I expected it to be bad.

Also: I am a broken person who watches terrible movies on purpose.

You should seek help. Soon. Friends don't let friends watch NT2.

It will be 4 hours long and document the heroic journey to discover the location of the lost city of Atlantis. SPOILER ALERT: The Washington Monument turns out to be a rocket which takes the characters on a wild ride to the final resting place of the lost city: The Moon.
