Arf.
I'm thinking about getting a dog. Maybe after I get my tax return. I want something small enough that I won't feel terrible about keeping a free roaming animal indoors. I fervently believe that dogs who want to run need yards to run in, and if you don't have one, you shouldn't have the other. Maybe a Welsh Corgi (itealaich , with whom I share several fandoms, suggests naming such a dog Zwei) but picking a breed and then hunting for a dog in that style feels...inorganic to me.
A lot of my friends, and you know who you are, think of their animals as their families. I've felt that affinity, but I've also felt that affinity for my closest friends. Others go a step further. To them they're like their children. I don't know if I'd go that far. I'm a middle ground kind of dude.
I've never actually had my own pet; I've never actually sought out a pet.
The reason I want a dog is that I want something I can take out into the world with me.
