Dead and Lovely: Stories about Lyanna (a fanmix)

Mar 26, 2012 23:25

Here you have it, my first fanmix, devoted to Lyanna Stark. The way different stories and legends surround her life and death is intriguing to me, and I thought it'd be interesting to try and see it as tales told by various people around her, all of them different and neither of them entirely true.

Hope you like it, and please let me know if any links are broken, I'll try to fix it.

WINTERFELL'S STORY
The homeplace of Starks witnessed many children grow up,
among them a girl who was as unruly as she was vivacious.
More broadly, this is her family’s story.

Faith Hill - Wild One
They said change your clothes
She said no I won't
They said comb your hair
She said some kids don't

When she was 3 years old on her daddy's knee
He said you can be anything you want to be
She's a wild one
Runnin' free

Poets of the Fall - Miss Impossible
She can see about four satellites every minute of the hour
And find a four leaf clover where you never saw a flower
She's habitually paradoxical, a parallel perpendicular

Barefoot in nightgowns, that's how she dances in the rain
Sundown to sundown, like she was washing 'way her pain

As she is beautiful, she's unpredictable
Damned irresistible, is it plausible to hate her

ROBERT’S STORY
Robert was never a good judge of character, and the
Lyanna he was in love with existed mostly in his head.
Despite all that, his heart was full of true feelings and it was hers.

Tevin Campbell - Dandelion
While I was lying in the autumn breeze
I felt a brush against my skin
So elegantly free, so delicate was she
And something deep within was calling out to me
Where have you been? I've waited patiently
I never thought you'd find your way
Her voice so heavenly, dear God I can't believe
An angel sent to me don't ever go away

SINGERS’ STORY
One of the many tales sung by bards about the tourney at Harrenhal, about
the beauty who moved Prince Rhaegar to crown her with winter roses
the Queen of Love and Beauty. Few people might know what truly happened
at Harrelhal that summer, but all know the most fairy-tale like part of it.

Van Morrison - Troubadours
From the ancient sun to the old heart stove come the troubadours
From the city gates to the castle walls it's the troubadours
On a sunlit day it was bright and clear
And the people came from far and they came from near
To hear the troubadours

Well the troubadours sang their songs of love to the lady fair
She was sitting outside on a balcony in in the cool night air
It was a starry night the moon was shining bright
And the trumpets rang and they gave a chime
For the troubadours

ELIA’S STORY
Elia of Dorne was a delicate woman, but she wasn’t clueless.
She could have been wrath to be so humiliated in public, but
she was wise and sad, that one.

Tegan and Sara - Back in Your Head
Build a wall of books
Between us in our bed
Repeat, repeat the words
That I know we both said

Remember when I was
So strange and likeable
I just want back in your head
I just want back in your head

LYANNA’S STORY
To this day people speak of her as being kidnapped by Rhaegar,
but it was her decision as much as his. She was headstrong and
willful, but she understood what was happening, and she walked into
it herself. It was her choice, and she saw what it would bring about.

This love (will be your downfall)
I'm feeling down about this love

Who are you to make me feel so good?
Who are we to tell ourselves that we're misunderstood?
Oh, who am I to say I'm always yours?
Who am I to choose the boy that everyone adores?
Oh, I don't see a reason why we can't just be apart
We're falling on each other like we're always in the dark
Oh, I don't think you know me much at all, at all

This love is be and end all
This love will be your downfall

RHAEGAR’S STORY
The enigmatic Targaryen prince, adored and respected by everyone,
had exactly the opposite feelings towards himself. The man who
excelled at everything he did failed to see that the woman who had
his every thought went with him willingly. His emotions had swept him
into the ocean of uncertainty, made him question his own sanity -
because the ghosts of madness were never too far behind for a Targaryen.
He called his uncontrollable feelings for Lyanna his personal madness,
and hated himself all the way till the end. He believed himself a monster,
a captor who croons over his precious victim, and thought himself
responsible for all the destruction and grief it brought.

Hinder - Bed of Roses
I wanna lay you down in a bed of roses
For tonight I sleep on a bed on nails
Oh I wanna be just as close as the holy ghost is
Lay you down on bed of roses

Ingrid Michaelson - The Chain
So glide away and so be healed
and promise not to promise anymore
and if you come around again then i will take,
then i will take the chain from off the door
I'll never say, I'll never love
but I dont say a lot of things and you my love are gone

HIM - Poison Girl

the fire in her eyes
grew dim and then died
as the poison inside
reached her heart

And the coldest bliss
faith ceased to exist
as we grew apart
like never before

I did it all just for her
I did it all just for her
And love wants us dead
Just me and my poison girl

NED’S STORY
Dear Ned, who had to see his sister die on his hands and made a promise that cost him so much.

Vandaveer - Marianne You’ve Done It Now
Oh Marianne, you went and lost your head
Outside the gates, they found you dead
You've been cut up, you've been cut down
Your shoulders lost their precious crown

Marianne, you've done it now
Marianne

Oh Marianne, who cut you down to size?
who slashed your throat, plucked out your pretty eyes?
who drew your blood straight from your heart?
who spelled your name on the ground with a cursive mark?

Sister Hazel - Sword and Shield
Just when the sky runs out of rain
Just when the sun runs out of light
Just when the earth is ill with pain
Just when your body is out of fight
I will be there
I will be the smallest piece in everything
And I would give my life before I break this promise to you

The Last Story
No one knows the whole story, only what remains of it in the end.

Tom Waits - Dead and Lovely
She was a middle class girl
She was in over her head
She thought she would
Stand up in the deep end
He had a bullet proof smile
He had money to burn
She thought she had the moon
In her pocket
But now she's dead
She's so dead
Forever dead and lovely now
