So I had three gigs in Indianapolis this weekend, which was great. Since I didn't trust Indy to have a vibrant vegan community (nor did I have time to find it), I decided to pack all my own food.
It was the best idea I've ever had!
Usually, when people fly you in someplace to perform, they want to show you how thrilled they are to have you so they splurge and buy you the big hotel breakfast buffet, which is eggs, hashbrowns, waffles, and other heavy food. The result is that I always feel kind of gross when I'm on the road.
This time, I packed cans of soup, bags of soy crips, vegan protein bars, and various mixtures of tofu, chickpeas, and masala in tupperwear. Not only did I feel great all weekend, but I kept my lenten vow and I managed to lose some weight in the process. Whoo!
Also, for the first time I went to the gym while on the road. I looked up a health club in the yellow pages and asked them if they had single day rates. For eight bucks, I got a great workout. Suberb.
And I've done pretty well for myself, losing 3.2 lbs. This number is a bit inflated because it's been 9 days since my last post instead of 7 (I just got back in NYC), but still, I'm happy. Goodbye, chub! Hello, sex appeal!
