I have been meaning to write a review/reaction to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, but my present mood is too dark to allow fully nuanced expressions of my opinions. I know the book deserves more than the bitter rant that is undoubtedly all I could produce at this time. Perhaps I'll revisit Harry Potter when my thoughts are lighter.
For now, I'll be hiding myself away while I read A Prayer for Owen Meany. I'm not sure if this is a wonderful idea or a terrible one, but it's what I'm going to do.
The real purpose of this post is to copy a brutally direct and honest quote given in the opening:
Not the least of my problems is that I can hardly even imagine what kind of an experience a genuine, self-authenticating religious experience would be. Without somehow destroying me in the process, how could God reveal himself in a way that would leave no room for doubt? If there were no room for doubt, there would be no room for me. -- Frederick Buechner
Indeed, how?
ETA: It has occurred to me that, while this post doesn't really contain any HP spoilers, the comments do. So, if by some outside chance someone who hasn't read the book but wants to (or is waiting for the movie **shudder**) is reading my journal, they keep that in mind.
