So...professional wrestling isn't a nice thing to do at all. When I proposed it to be the subject of our documentary, I never stopped and thought about the kind of people we'd be dealing with. Now I think it wasn't such a good idea.
We went to film some material tonight. For this we had to stay outside (or pay about ten bucks for each person...we refused to spend $50 to have the right to watch), with this awful cold weather, waiting for the opportunity to get some takes. Unfortunately it came in the form of a negative answer, about two hours after we arrived. Apparently the wrestlers (who happen to be women) won't be able to appear on camera without their manager in the room. It sounds all so very pimp-like. And I'm sort of ok with it, except for the fact that they have to work under terrible conditions. The place where they would be fighting tonight was outdoors, there was no roof, down to 8°C and raining. When we saw the poor girls coming out, they were shivering, but they had to be out there to fight against each other for the pleasure of the men that were there to see them. Bloody unfair I say, but then again, I must admit no one is forcing them to do so...or at least I hope not. With some luck we'll have our interviews on monday; althought if the pimp is going to be there, I don't think the girls will feel like they can say much. We'll see then.
