The theme for Matsumoto’s wardrobe is [old-but-still-wearable clothes]. "My oldest one is chino pants from my high school days. Some people have this image of wearing standout clothes but I guess, T-shirt and denim are the standard for summer. Also T-shirt with solid colour is being popular now”.
However, talking about his showy clothes “Of course, I’m still counting on them (laughs)”.
“In buying clothes, it’s important for me to sense the making-process of the clothes and it has nothing to do with whether I would wear it or not. So, it’s like a destined meeting (laughs)”. "Same like how we appreciate an art work. That’s why sometimes, I fuss over the clothes quality as I want to keep it as long as possible”.
Do you also have any standard for the type of woman that you like?
"No, I don’t. I think it’s rude to categorize women into types you like and you don’t like. But, being good at cooking, having degree in certain field, or always improving herself must be positive and nice traits, I suppose. Women who can enjoy their lives are stunning for me. That’s because I want to be like that as well".
And what kind of image do you want to always have as a part of Arashi?
"With consideration to exist properly. It will be great if I can live my life without putting time into waste, and it’s fine to look back sometimes but still move forward firmly"

This time we have “New Standard” as the theme for the interview. We ask Sakurai about it and while choosing the right words, he delivers his thoughts. “For me, I would never set a standard. By setting a standard, it's as if we have got a final goal. We’ve been through a lot to get people’s recognition but doesn’t mean we will stop there. We want to keep on evolving, that’s how I see it”.
When being asked about Arashi’s existence, he answers it with an illustration. “For example, there are 5 idiot boys making noises at a classroom corner then some girls give comments of how unbelievable the boys are. It might sound negative but that’s how I think about it lately”. It’s extraordinary if he could have such an objective point of view.
After a handful of questions, finally we can see the real Sakurai’s standard points. “I’ve got twelve identical V-neck T-shirts and I put on it every day. There are also seven pairs of same sandal only diferrent in colors. I suppose, I do have some standards in my life (laughs)”.
Now about being the main personality of [24 Hour Television] Sakurai talks in his calm expression, “I’m honored to have another chance together with the viewers in this programs and hopefully I could give a helpful contribution in it”
