The fact that a lot of these are about love reflects less the fact that L cares about it, more the fact that EVERY FUCKING SONG EVER seems to be about love and sex. Anyways, some of them are in for theme, not for specificity, and some are in for specific lines, not overall workingness.
Stars- In Our Bedroom Afer The War
Lift your head and look out the window
Stay that way for the rest of the day and watch the time go
Listen! The birds sing! Listen! The bells ring!
All the living are dead, and the dead are all living
The war is over and we are beginning...
Edith Piaf- Milord
Dire qu'il suffit parfois
Qu'il y ait un navire
Pour que tout se déchire
Quand le navire s'en va...
Il emmenait avec lui
La douce aux yeux si tendres
Qui n'a pas su comprendre
Qu'elle brisait votre vie
Brandi Carlile- The Story
All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I've been
And how I got to where I am
Mika- Ring Ring
You think you're clever
But you're never saying nothing at all
You got a dangerous obsession
Now I'm in need of some protection
That was never my intention
The Servant- Cells
I watch them watch me I watch them too
Across the street across the room
I dress myself like a charcoal sketch
My eyes are brown and my hair's a mess
Xavier Rudd- Set it Up
I have been to cold dark places
I have had an evil mind
The cold of the cold dark places
Seem to help the sun to shine
Simon and Garfunkle- Bookends Theme
Time it was, and what a time it was, it was
A time of innocence, a time of confidences
Long ago, it must be, I have a photograph
Preserve your memories; They're all that's left you
Scissor Sisters- Comfortably Numb
There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship floats on the horizon
You're only coming through in waves
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying
Ella Fitzgerald- Miss Otis Regrets
When she woke up and found that her dream of love was gone, madam,
She ran to the man who had led her so far astray,
And from under her velvet gown,
She drew a gun and shot her love down, madam,
Miss Otis regrets, she's unable to lunch today.
(For the CASES, not because he's inclined to wake up and shoot anyone, and for Cole Porter's sense of humour.)
Barenaked Ladies- Pinch Me
Tonal. None of the lyrics work, so not including them.
