[Vince walks up to her, silent as the grave. He doesn't say anything, now. Doesn't even smile. He just looks passively at the fire.]

[She doesn't notice him, still too focused on the fire and how that damn book is not burning up.]

This is ridiculous. Why...Why won't it just go away.

It never does.

[Her head lifts from the new voice, but she doesn't turn around.]

...Serves me right for wanting to learn about Christmas and writing to Santa Claus. I should have never sent a letter.

[He moves a bit closer.]

Shouldn't paper burn?

It should. It's only paper, but it isn't burning. Can Mayfield really just bend the laws of nature like that?

I don't see why not. They've done it before.

That...That just isn't fair! [She kicks the snow on the ground a little and sighs.] Christmas isn't supposed to be like this all the time I hope.

[numanstan]

Nah. [He shrugs.] It's usually... a bit better.

Wish I had a chance to celebrate it before this then. I'm sure it would have been lovely. [She looks at the fire pit, the book still not burning up within it.] I think this is the worst thing they've done yet.
