friday night:
went out to dinner at tasty thai restaurant kai introduced us to, on 9th ave between 39 & 40 i think. i forget the name, but it has very very tasty veggie duck items. red curry with basil and coconut milk and veggie duck. i do love veggie duck. the place has fluorescents sunk slightly below the booths along the wall though, which made me need to have a glass of wine. really. i have a very fast frame rate of vision so i see all fluorescents as flickering like strobe lights, which then makes me feel like i am going to have a seizure. a glass of wine helps. so i had one.
after dinner we drove (i love the car, it really opens up the city) to some art party on the upper east side. it was in the penthouse loft on the 32nd floor and had wrap around windows. the view was amazing. in fact, we attended purely for the view and the free beverages. we didn't talk to anyone, just had some free drinks and watched planes land at both laguardia and jfk from the same window, while cars passed right by on the queensboro bridge. the building was right on the river and we could see everything going on on roosevelt island. it was amazing. i normally am not a fan of heights but this was worth it. the city looked so lovely and pure and gentle from up there, flickering away.
then we came home and watched The Island, featuring scarlet johansson and ewan mcgregor, for lack of anything else to watch. it was ok, with the usual scientific holes in the story but my disbelief was mostly suspended thanks to the music video-like direction of the whole thing. it was all cross processed and cut quickly and very hard to follow. but the idea behind it was interesting and made for a fine discussion. not a waste of a evening in my opinion.
saturday night:
i did something with my afternoon, but if pressed i certainly can't remember what. i guess it was not very interesting. probably something computer related. anyway.
around 6pm we got a call from our old neighbor in elizabeth st saying that 4 large boxes had been delivered for harri. it seems his huge frames for his show in finland were sent there by mistake. so we went to pick them up. argh. the thing was, the did not all fit in the car. our neighbor let us in but then had to leave, and we got all the boxes outside to the car before we realized they would not fit. so harri drove each box home individually, while i waited outside on stupid obnoxious elizabeth street with all the urban cowboy hatters with the remaining boxes and no coat. while i was waiting, some clever folks in a building across the street decided to have some fun with a laser pointer and my person. while i ignored them (but was silently distressed that boys are still such assholes and girls still have to take it), they continued to find hilarity in their little gag for the remaining 30 minutes i had to freeze my booty off on the street. while all of this was going on, snooty pedestrian shoppers wearing multiple dead animals would walk by and give me the fishy eyeball. hey sorry, i didn't dress up for your fancy neighborhood! one lady's diamond necklaces were so big they actually MADE A BLINGING SOUND. i kid you not. anyway, we eventually got the boxes all home and stuff. not a super fun beginning for a saturday night.
earlier in the day, marvin had peed in harri's fancy fancy toolbox. then on the bathmat, then right on the floor, and as we were leaving to go to josh' bday party, right on my favorite victorian boots that cost a whole fashion shoot's salary. thanks, marvin! so i cleaned off the boots and we went to pick up marion. as we were walking up the street to the party, the pavement began to act strangely. it didn't quite work right under my foot. after a few steps i realized that it was in fact not the pavement that was faulty, but that same freaking boot again. the heel had broken right in 2. now, these are 4 inch heels so it does make a difference. i hobbled into the party and tried to play it off but i kept forgetting and almost falling over so i got some packing tape from josh and tried to tape it together. that worked for about 5 minutes. the shoes go to the fixit guy tomorrow. cross your fingers for my broken, peed on fabulous boots. i can't afford another pair right now.
anyway! the party was very nice and marion immediately forgot how to make a cocktail and just poured herself a full red party cup of gin, with 2 lime slices in it. in half an hour we were calling her lil' drunkie. in 2 hours she was talking to herself and giggling about nothing in the backseat of our car as we drove her home. it was funny.
sunday:
read the paper. read books. harri made a lovely breakfast of waffles with blueberries and cream and coffee and tea. yum. sunday is my newly appointed freaking day off and i mean it, baby. sunday is for sitting around in pajamas all day, reading stuff and perhaps watching a predictable but still enjoyable comedic film. sunday is not for working or anything serious. it is for chillin. i have extended chillin' to include exercise because i am so addicted to it now that i get depressed and angry if i don't do at least 20 minutes of cardio at the same time every day. sunday i did not have a training session so i downloaded a workout from
http://www.itrain.com and it was really great! 40 minutes of a bike workout with cheesy but amusing and surprisingly motivating music and instruction. all for $0.99. they have all kinds of different workouts and i highly recommend it.
etc:
i recently tried Fresh Direct and i love it! it is a shlep for us to get to the whole foods (fresh fields), find a parking space, get all our shit without buying on impulse, wait in the forever long checkout, haul the bags back to the car and drive home. ick. sometimes it is fun but not usually. but fresh direct is awesome! their organic products are great quality and they have lots of good veggie stuff. PLUS yesterday i discovered they have fudgecicles (i can't spell, sue me) that are sugar free and they are freaking tasty. harri ate *5* today. sheesh. save some for me. anyway, i love going through the website and finding products and getting all our household needs (food, TP, detergent, bandaids, blah blah) in one place like in normal groceries outside of nyc. go technology.
there was something else but i forgot what it was. oh well. i am totally out of marbles as we haven't slept at all since marvin started Heat, The Sequel. yowling all night. i don't know which way is up. today i was walking out of our upstairs bathroom and i seriously thought for a second i was in my parents' house instead. this afternoon i was talking to a client on the phone and she said "oh, is this a bad time? i hear your baby crying!" au contraire mon frere i said, that is just my cat with her booty to the roof looking for a boyfriend. the client was a bit weirded out and the call ended rather quickly. well, that is life. "right," said fred, "i can't spell in french."
