When I was young I was the handsomest man. I was young and handsome and smart, when I was young. people would gather around me and smile and dance, when I was young, but before I got older. Before I met winter and the days got plainer. As I got plainer and the days got shorter, when I was getting older, and the winters were colder. Before I was old, I measured in twenties and twentyones, now forties, now fifties. When I was halfway, I was halfway to death, halfway from a gasping breath. When I was young I loved everyone; before I was tired, and still desired.
