...Occupational Hazard...

My job is a very dangerous one. Cops and window-washers think they have it bad? Try being me.

Yesterday, some guy from a nearby homeless shelter came in to cash a check from his account. He has no ID, because "the police took it away," and he's kinda rushing me, which makes me wonder even more if I should cash it or not. All through the transaction, he's waving to some chick outside the bank. Whatever. I cash his check anyway, since he had an ID from the shelter and a voter's registration card. Good, be gone. So he goes outside and speaks to the girl, and comes back in with her and a bookbag. They approach me, and ask if they can both use the restroom. Scared shitless, I say OK. I walk over to unlock the back door that leads to the hall where our restrooms are, and tell the other teller there with me that these two scary people are going into the restrooms. He says OK, and I let them in. All of a sudden my manager and FSR come rushing over to me asking what they're up to. I have no clue. So they use the restroom and come out one-by-one. Then they leave. So we go into the restrooms in pairs to inspect. We didn't find anything, but it was scary. Why the hell do people have to bring bookbags into banks?!

So today I walk into work all excited about it being a short day for me, and the long weekend is on the horizon...Good stuff. I look inside and there are these two dirty [And I mean dirty] people sitting at one of the unused desks. So I ask the other teller to see if she knows what is going on with them, since my branch is usually only visited by the rich South Miami and Gables type of clients.

Turns out...They had been sitting outside by our ATM since 3am because they are non-customers and their ATM card got jammed in the ATM. Thats right...Since 3am. So at 9am when the doors were opened, they entered and started screaming because they needed money and stuff. So my manager and another teller tried to budge the card out, but they did a great job of jamming that crap in there, and there was no way they could get it out.

I went in at noon...And they were still there. The ATM technician was supposedly on his way, but that wasn't good enough for these people. The wife, or whatever she was, was pacing all around the lobby and running outside going insane. She screamed at us on several occasions, because she was on anti-depressants and needed her medication, and she threatened us, claiming that if she didn't get home to take the meds we would have to call the cops on her. So I'm FREAKING OUT. She was telling us to buy her food, she would go outside along Red Road and scream at random people, and she was spitting on the floor. Anytime someone would approach the ATM, she'd run up to them and nearly assault them. It was some scary shit. We ended up calling the Coral Gables police, because she wouldn't stop crying and threatening us, and she was getting extremely hostile with our manager for not being able to get the card out. [The husband or whatever was silent through most of the ordeal...But at one point he went outside with her, and came back in with a PowerPuff Girl's bookbag, filled with God-knows-what, which scared us even more...]

So a cop arrived, and while we were explaining the situation to him, she came back from another one of her trips outside. Great. This scene escalates the situation even more, cause she's mad at us for calling the cops. The cop spoke to her, and told her to go away for an hour, and then come back for the card. She obeys, supposedly and leaves. Just then the ATM servicer gets there, and uses his tools to disemble to machine and get the card. Turns out the people were like hiding somewhere and saw that the guy had arrived, and came right back in to get the card, which looked quite fraudulent. I was just glad they finally left, but not before offering a dirty hand for us to shake. Ugh.

So after we all got off today, we went to Friday's to celebrate one of our tellers turning 21, and all of us surviving two crazy days at the bank. The oldest person at my branch is 24, but I'm the only one under 21 now. So they had a good time ragging on me and waving drinks in front of my face and talking all kinds of shit. Good times. I had fun though...They're cool people. And the tab was expensed to the bank...So that made it even better for all of us.

And yeah. Thats about all I have to say. Talk about living on the edge. You have to be some kind of daredevil to work in the banking industry. Who knows what tomorrow will bring. Wish me luck. XOXOs, KiM.
