The Great NYC Update Part II

Not sure if I'm going to finish this from beginning to end because I'm using the blackberry at work. And typing anything takes forever.

Ok, back to the story. On wednesday, we went to the Guggenheim, which with the exception of one room was entirely filled by the work of one artist. His name escapes me at the minute, but he was a Chinese artist who did most of his work in installations (one piece consisted of about 6 cars suspended in midair) and gunpowder paintings. I seriously need to look this guy up. His stuff was sweet. One installation was a bunch of wolves running in a pack up to a glass wall, where they collide with the wall. It was there that Johanna and I encountered a character that we called Brotha Wolf. We went to walk through the pack of wolves and he said "watch the wolves." And then very quietly, when we were almost out of earshot, he added "they're my family." And then when we walked back through the wolves, he started to walk slowly behind us and quietly said "good job." Hilarious. His comedic timing was impeccable.

And then we went looking for the Museum of Modern Art, which we didn't find, due to my poor pamphlet-reading skills. It was better luck than anything that we didn't find it. The way that things worked out was much better than we planned.

Since we couldn't find the MoMA, we went to Times Square. Times square was bigger and brighter and more insane than I ever could have imagined. We went to the enormous Virgin Megastore (3 huge floors!). And then we ran into a man selling tickets for a comedy club on the street for 10 bucks a piece to the club where Jerr Sienfield recorded the opening monologues to his show. And Johanna and I, being the fly-by-the-seat-of-our-pants people that we are, decided to go. The show was hilarious, definitley a good time. But the show didn't get over until about 1am. This meant we didn't get to Newark until 2am, coincidentally when the last train left for New brunswick. However, on our trip from NY to Newark, we saw the conductor hanging his head out of the window with a big grin on his face. After he went by, Johanna was telling me that she wanted to hit him on the head as he was going by. He apparently saw her telling me this because after we got on the train, he walked through our car and asked for high-fives. These kinds od things only happen to us. So, basically, we were stranded in Newark until 4:40 when the next train came. But not long after we figured this all out, I realized that I had left my phone on the last train.I had Johanna call it and didn't hear anything. Then my phone called back. IT was Conductor Bill, whom we later found out was our friend was the high-fives.

...to be continued.

I have been working since midnight and this entry was the most productive thing I've done all day.
