I want a fast food worker.

I hope my boss sees this!!!!!

Last summer, I belonged to the lucky class of people who have the privilege to call themselves fast food workers. I earned money for providing my grand services, and I know that I helped in the lives of all of the customers I served.
I want a fast food worker who loves each and every customer, regardless of their level of rudeness. Whether they think they are right and will not listen to reason, or whether they are plainly attempting to take advantage of my worker in attempt to obtain free food. I want a worker who will smile and thank every customer, multiple times throughout the transaction, no matter what occurs during the sale. If a customer calls my worker an idiot, then the worker probably is, and needs to agree and nod and smile. Of course, I know my worker is not an idiot, but it is perfectly fine if the customer believes differently. My worker is tough. I want a worker who would never even have a nightmare about talking back to a customer. If the policy a customer is stating is completely wrong and my worker knows it, he will not come to me for help, nor will he give away free food. They know how to handle the situation, and will not cost me money nor make the customer unhappy.

I want a worker who will not mind performing duties that are not their own, such as cleaning and mopping the bathroom floors even though their job title is a cashier. I want a worker who, should they see that a table is slightly messy out of the corner of their ever-watchful eye, will immediately dash to that table and wipe it clean, along with any others they see unfit. I want a worker who will not only perform any cleaning duties at any time, but will do so in a very short amount of time. When I say do it, my worker runs and does it, before I even notice them gone for too long. If I do notice that they are gone for a second too long, they will offer to make it up to me by cleaning something of my choice, but of course they will ask me what they need to do before I have to tell them. Even if the worker is not gone too long, I might still want them to perform something extra, even though they took just the right amount of time. They will understand and accept this smiling, of course.

I want a worker who will never think that they are safe from doing another's work. A worker who would never dream of simply doing their own duties, while not doing another’s, should another worker decide not to do theirs. I want a worker who will not only complete other worker’s duties, but will actually foresee them being incomplete and take on the job before I even notice! For example, if it is the closing employee’s duty to clean the bathroom and sweep and mop the entire length of the store, and they decide that they do not desire to complete those tasks, then I expect my wonderful employee to do this person’s job even if it means having to stay after for an amount of time after their shift ends. Besides, the shift is only an indication of when they should leave, and they should clock out at that time, even if they end up staying an extra hour or two over. Besides, with the generous pay I provide to the employee, they should be grateful to work for it.

I would love a worker who would never miss a day or be late, not even if they want to plan their day off for months in advance, or if they have to take their child or family member to the emergency room. I mean, this is a serious business and I expect them to be serious as well. Even though she will get five sick days a year, she will not really take them. They are just in place to please the worker’s unions. If the worker is sick, she will still show up for work and will not contaminate any of the customers. She will perform her duties just as well, and in the same amount of time. She will never miss anything.

I want a worker who knows that the pay I dole out is not substandard, and is in fact probably more generous than necessary. I mean, at least I give out ten cents more than minimum wage! That is more than I can say for certain *other* fast food chains. I mean, ten whole CENTS more? That adds up to nearly a dollar after ten hours, after taxes and such is siphoned out. I want a worker who will be satisfied and content with this amount of money, and will not ask for a raise at any time, EVER. If I decide that this worker has been doing an above perfect job around the restaurant, I might deign to give them a ten cent raise. But should they think they are safe among the ranks and begin to slack off at any point, that ten cent raise will be ripped out of their grasp. I will not have my worker earning an extra ten cents and not slaving for it. The pay is great, and I need a worker who will work to deserve it.

I am loathe to admit that I have never had a worker who fulfills all of these qualities. But is it really too much to ask? After all, my goodness, who wouldn’t want a fast food worker?!
