Chapter One
“So you think that it’s murder?” Nami said getting onto her bed. She was wearing her pajamas and her light was turned off. Amanda was still scanning over something over on her laptop.
“And what on earth are you doing?” Nami got out again and sat on Amanda’s bed. Amanda had most of her hair tied up and reading glasses on while wearing mini shorts and a spaghetti strap shirt.
“Where did you get that information?” Nami asked as she saw police reports and profiles of students on her laptop.
“I hacked into the school’s server and downloaded a copy of the police report of Mashka’s little jump from the building.” Amanda said typing in some more codes while hacking into the police files.
“And how are you hacking into police reports? That’s illegal.” Nami protested against her roommate breaking the law into looking at the police reports.
“Sometimes, the police have information that they don’t share. They might know something about what really happened to Mashka. And doesn’t it freak you out?” Amanda asked looking at Nami.
“Freak me out what?” Nami asked looking confused at Amanda. Amanda sighed.
“You know~ two days ago, Makimachi Reira was found hanging in the auditorium,” Amanda paused as Nami nodded. “And now, Sokolov Mashka falling out of the building right in front of us? This sounds weird. Two students dead within two days time.” Amanda finished her explanation.
“You might be onto something here. But please don’t mention about the body of Mashka falling in front of us. Henrietta is still in the hospital wing as it is. I’ll be having nightmares now.” Nami complained. Nami’s eyes caught the attention of the finished downloaded report.
“What does it say?” she asked.
“Either the two girls might’ve really committed suicide. Or this may be the work of a serial killer.” Amanda read the report. Nami immediately fainted on Amanda’s bed. The thought of a serial killer in the school was crazy.
“Nami~! This is my bed~!!!” Amanda tried shaking Nami. But she knocked out hard. “Fine, I’ll sleep in your bed.” Amanda said.
The next morning~
“You guys are crazy!” Kei commented during lunch. Even Yabu, Yaotome and Takaki laughed. “A serial killer in the school? Are you guys serious?”
“They might be on to something.” Cyrille wondered.
“You’ve got to be kidding me! You too Cy?” Yabu complained towards Cyrille’s agreement to what the two girls had said.
“Yeah. I mean... oh mi god I have to pick up Henrietta from the infirmary~!” Kei remembered as he looked at his watch. He was already 5 minutes late.
“See you guys!” Kei said running out and heading towards the infirmary.
“Well, we’ll help look into this. Let’s meet later at the dorm intersection.” Cyrille suggested. Suzuka protested about this.
“Are you crack? That place is forbidden to the high school!”
“To the high school, yes. You guys will have higher chances of being expelled.” Cyrille warned Nami and Amanda.
“That’s fine. As long as we don’t get caught.” Nami said.
After school when the sun set...
“You guys there?” Cyrille asked as she went inside the room that was between the girls and boys dorm. It was dark where musky maroon curtains where falling from it’s place.
“We’re here.” Nami and Amanda said in unison. Keito, Yamada and Nakajima appeared from behind them. Cyrille was a bit worried whether they’ll turn them in to the school authorities.
“Gommen Cyrille. These boys caught us.” Nami said as she was being held by Keito.
“That’s fine as long as they don’t turn you guys in. But, why is Amanda sulking like that?” Cyrille asked as she saw Amanda being held by Yamada, sulking in her own being.
“Oh... that... we uhm... kinda broke the rules... “Nami replied. “We went into the boys’ dorm.” She finished her sentence.
“But she wasn’t sulking when she broke the law?” Cyrille asked.
“This is weird. Can we just get this over with?” Yamada said releasing his grip from Amanda who rubbed her wrists after.
“Ok. So what information do we have?” Cyrille asked as they sat in a circle. Amanda opened her laptop and opened the files that she downloaded.
“All we know is that the two girls have no connection at all.” Nami replied. Cyrille thought deeper. Nothing connected between Makimachi Reira and Sokolov Mashka. Suddenly, someone’s phone started to ring.
“Great time to interrupt.” Cyrille commented.
“Hello?” Keito answered his phone. It was none other than Chinen. “Wassup?..... What?.... When?... Where?... We’ll be on our way...” Keito hang up on Chinen. Everyone seemed curious about what had just happened. Keito seemed mortified at what Chinen had just him.
“What happened?” Cyrille asked.
“A girl named Tachibana Fuyumi was found dead in the swimming pool.” Keito replied. The group rushed to the swimming pool where there were police again, pulling out the body of a girl from the pool.
“Hey~ you guys are here. What happened?” Yuto asked as they arrived on the scene. The police were everywhere. They were keeping students out of the way. The principal and dean were there talking to the authorities.
“Hey you kids. It’s getting late. Why don’t you guys go back to your dorms? Just another girl committed suicide.” a policeman told them. Yamada was getting slightly irritated about what was happening now. Haven’t they realized anything about her?
“Baka~ how could you say that this was suicide when this is clearly murder!?” Yamada protested against the words of the police. A man approached them. He looked like he was the head of this investigation.
“And how do you know young man? Unless you might know who could’ve done this.” He spoke to Yamada. Yamada just smirked at him and laughed.
“You know something.” He said once again grabbing Yamada’s shirt. “Tell me.”
“Baka. Tachibana Fuyumi is on the swim team. It would’ve taken her five minutes to drown. That’s strange. How could she just die in the water when that is her turf? That is unless she was murdered.” Amanda answered to him. The chief was amazed. He checked again the profile of Fuyumi. And she was indeed in the swim team.
“We’ll return to our dorms now.” Amanda said and pushed him away from Yamada.
Near the dorms...
“Wow Amanda. I totally forgot that Fuyumi was in the swim team. That’s a good call.” Nami said with relief. She totally thought that Yamada was going to be arrested cause he knew something like that.
“Anyways, I got to check out something. I’ll be back in the dorm in thirty minutes.” Amanda said remembering something. Nami was about to stop Amanda when she realized that it would be pointless to do that.
“Aw forget it...” Nami said and proceeded to her room.
Amanda made sure that no one saw her go into the theatre. There was something there that she felt that the authorities missed. She crept down through the aisles. On the stage, was a picture of Reira with candles surrounding the picture. She saw a shadow on the stage. She hid behind the chairs of the front row.
“I know you’re there. Come out.” Yamada said emerging from the curtains.
“What on earth are you doing here?” Amanda asked supporting herself as she climbed onto the stage.
“I was about to ask you the same thing.” Yamada said helping her get up on the stage.
“I’m this close to getting expelled from the prison. It doesn’t matter if I get caught.” Amanda replied looking at the rope hanging from the ceiling. When they found Reira the other day, she was found hanging with ropes around her. She looked like a puppet on strings.
“Hey, thanks for saving me back there. I absolutely thought they were going to bring me in for questioning.” Yamada thanked her.
“No problem. Why couldn’t they just see that this was murder?” Amanda asked herself. Reira definitely committed suicide.
“Why do you think that Tachibana-san’s death was murder?” Yamada asked her as they both looked at the ceiling.
“Because, Tachibana was so excited to see her mother get out.” Amanda replied.
The next day...
Classes were cancelled since the teachers had to work with the authorities regarding the sudden deaths in the school. But that didn’t stop the students from going on with their school activities. The students handling the foreign affairs still had work about the French Fair that was going to occur. Nami and Keito were helping out in that department since they were short handed after Mashka’s death. The swim team was helping the authorities with Fuyumi’s mysterious death. Cyrille and Ixavelle were there helping them out since they loved chemistry and their teacher needed to analyze certain substances. Niarra, Henrietta and Suzuka still had choir practices for the French Fair. HSJ members were helping out in every way they can.
At the Foreign Affairs Department...
“While Amanda-san and Nami-san are out giving the final draft to the teachers, I wanted to ask you something about Mashka.” Keito said as he and another foreign student named Maya were preparing the posters, pamphlets and flyers.
“Mashka? We were close yes. What do you want to know about?” Maya asked as she was rolling up the posters. Keito looked at the flyers. One of Mashka’s last works it was.
“Do you believe that she committed suicide?” Keito asked. May stopped rolling for a second and then continued.
“No. I believe that her death was an accident. The police told me the other day this was the room where she jumped off.” Maya said rolling up another poster. Keito walked over to the open window and took a look. This was where she jumped off. Right below him, was the pavement where he was walking where her body fell. Something caught his eye and he grabbed it
“Reira, she was involved here right?” Keito asked.
“Makimachi-chan? Ah~ she was just a part time volunteer. For school credits. A lot of students are doing those nowadays.” Maya replied as she finished up rolling the last poster. “Let’s bring this to the student council.” The two of them left the room carrying the items for the French Fair.
“What happened to Makimachi?” Keito asked.
“You ask too much questions you know that? Students who aren’t part of the Foreign Affairs Department usually don’t ask those. Well... she was discharged from her duties.” Maya replied as they went into the student council room.
“Hey. We were brought here before we could tell you guys. Sorry.” Amanda said getting off the table. Kei and Yabu were there helping out themselves.
“Ah~ That’s fine. Let’s get to work ne~” Maya said as the group prepared themselves. Keito stood up and shook his head.
“Wait. I forgot something. I’ll just go and check it out how it is. I’ll be right back.” Keito said and left the group for a while.
At the Chemistry Lab...
“Cyrille-chan? Ixavelle-chan?” Keito said as he entered the eerily empty lab. Though, he could smell chemicals being mixed and someone typing on the keyboard. It had to be one of the girls. He went inside and saw the two girls really dug into their work.
“Hi Keito.” Cyrille greeted him removing her gloves. The smell around that area stunk like hell.
“What have you guys been analyzing?” Keito asked covering his nose.
“Just simple lithium and hydrogen peroxide Oh yeah... the authorities found traces of chloroform around Tachibana’s mouth. Their ruling it a murder.” Ixa explained as she kept certain substances in a cold freezer.
“So she really was killed? But who would want to kill Fuyumi?” Keito asked.
“Someone who might’ve hated her. Everyone here has enemies Keito.” Cyrille explained. The two girls kept on analyzing DNA molecules.
“Oh. I wanted to you guys to quickly analyze this piece of cloth.” Keito said taking out a small beige piece of cloth he earlier found on the window sill. Cyrille took it and felt the fabric.
“Oh. This is from an electronic warming blanket.” She answered after looking closely at the fabric. Keito looked amazed at what she had said.
“You can tell?” Keito asked looking surprised on how fast these chemistry geniuses were able to tell.
“These gray strings conduct electricity without burning.” Ixa said pointing to an area where a gray string was pointing out.
“Sorry Keito. We still have work to do. We don’t want the forensics team messing up this lab when they arrive.” Cyrille said carefully transferring the substances to different containers.
“The forensics team?” Keito asked.
“Yeah. They ruled Fuyumi’s death murder. So there will be some forensics guys disguised as teachers who will come here.” Ixa explained shutting down the main computer in the chemistry lab.
“And just out of curiosity, where did you two get this sort of information?” Keito asked as he stopped at the door.
“Yama-chan told us.” Ixa replied. Keito nodded and left.
