hey y'all! im back writing again, hopefully this time for good. i guess i just get too lazy to update one day and then two days and then yeah... you get the idea.
IN TODAY'S UPDATE:
-Sailing Stuff
-Summerfest Stuff
-Album of the Day Stuff
-On friday night i went down to the marina to go sailing. it was the queens cup, which is the biggest race of the year. Over 230 boats race accross lake michegan to muskegon on the other side (the city where that car ferry thing goes), the catch is you race all night. So its pitch black, everyones grumpy and tired, and there are 20 knot winds (really really strong winds for all ye land folk). basically it makes for an interesting trip. we could have done really well, only our skipper is 80 so hes not the best when it comes to navigating so we ended up tacking at the wrong time and going an hour north of the finish line. Instead of finishing in the expected 10-12 hours, we crossed the finish line at 1:45 in the afternoon nearly 20 hours after we started. Holy fuck i was about to go crazy. Little did i know the fun of our adventure was just beginning. There are three things that sailors like gin, gin, and any other booze that happens to look and/or taste like gin. im pretty sure i have never seen people more drunk in my life (except for summerfest but that happened a day later). just picture an old, fat man running around in a prom dress and tiara, chuggin on a bottle o' booze. so yeah...after our skipper was thuroughly trashed (as trashed as an 80 year old can get) he proceded to pass out down below, while the rest of us took shifts sailing back to milwaukee. the moral of the story: what would you do with a drunken sailor? what would you do with a drunken sailor? what would you do with a drunken sailor, early in the morning? (its one of those songs, you know a piratey one)
-So after sleeping a little bit more on the sail back, i figured ahh, what the hell, i might as well go to summerfest tonite. so shawn, ben, lauren and i hopped on the freeway flyer from watertown plank road and cruised down to the summerfest grounds. definately the thing to do, driving downtown isnt worth it) you get quite a nice lesson on urban culture and the public transit system during the ride too, as shawn and i figured out. in an effort to bring down crime on the busses(?), the public transit system has installed little flat screen monitors to distract and educate the passengers.

ITS BRILLIANT!!!!
anyway....summerfest was amazing...first time i actually went to see a show at night, last year i was like fuck this i dont want to deal with drunk people. but honestly just avoid the people who are having trouble standing up and you will be ok.
so yeah instead of just sitting their and seeing one thing we kinda womdered around to see a little bit of everything. from the 8:00 shows we saw Blue Merle and Michael Tolcher. Both were really really good. Blue Merle was a lot like coldplay with a bluegrass twist (they have mandolin and violin) the violinist was really really good, kinda boydish in his playing style so that was cool to see. and then the tolcher guy was opening for gavin degraw so we saw him. he was one of those guys where he was decent but the backup band was a lot better. The bassist was played like funkish stuff but then everynow and then he would scratch his strings with his pick to get like a dj vinyl sound. it was cool. so then we stayed and watched a bit of gavin, which i have to admit was better live than on cd, the backup band was good and made brief attempts at more soloing and such. but before the concert they had this projection screen thing and you could text them messages to show....so we sent them something that would have been really funny but probably would have pissed a couple people off...so luckily it didnt get up. anyway, after watching gavin for a bit we got bored so we mosied on down to mobie at the miller oasis. prior to this i hadnt really noticed that many overly drunk people, which was probably because the gavin show was full of middle and high schoolers. between the drunk fat man failing miserbly to grind on his girlfriend (or random woman, not quite sure) and the drunk shirtless guy who poured beer on a random girl it was quite interesting. moby was cool though. live they actually play instruments so its not so electronic. and the three songs that we stayed for i knew really well. then we got bored again and headed down one more stage to finish the night with mr howie day. he was good but the reall entertainment were the drunk frat boys getting in a fight. we managed to get up really close to the stage but some bitch in front of us had her boyfriend lift her up on his shoulders allowing her to see perfectly and leaving all of us screwed. so this girl behind us asks everyone around us if we wanted her to go steal the girls cowboy hat. everyone agreed so she ran up and grabbed it and ran away giving it to somerandom guy. the random guy then goes to give it back but by this time the drunk boyfriend was pissed and he was running around looking pissed going "who stole the fucking hat?" the random guy gives the hat back so the drunk guy thinks he stole it. hes about to start trying to beat the shit out of the other guy but innocent bystanders intervened and convinced the two to just listen to the music. just think of those episodes of the real world when all the cast members get really really plastered.
so thats all for now...i'll leave you with one peice of advise for summerfest.....if youre coming to a stage late sneak around the side and then sneak in towards the stage, you can get really close up without having to wait forever.
