hey y'all, umm today wasnt exactly exciting with the exception of my dad and i went sailing with my boss (who also happens to own my dads office building) i do yardwork and such, anyway the other people on the boat besides the regular crew and us were a couple from tosa who was a client of the guy. it turns out that they were best freinds with none other than patrick coffey (so he doesnt just sit around wearing zubaz on the weekend) so that was kinda weird. the sailing itself actually kinda sucked. we got out onto the lake and to the staging area where all the boats were preparing for the race and the wind died, they ended up stalling for 1/2 hour before cancelling. so we put the sails up anyway and just kinda putzed around,i guess it was nice, just really boring. so yeah that was today
anyway...album of the day......iron and wine- the creek drank the cradle
i figured it might be a good idea to feature a band that didnt have head in name after oysterhead and radiohead.....iron and wine is definately a big change from the loud and sometimes dissonant sound of the past two bands. instead a nice quite folk inspired sound. if any of y'all have heard the garden state sound track....he did the such great hights song.....yes iron and wine is only one guy....sam beam, and his guitar. recorded on a vintage 4track, the creek drank the cradle has a very organic and almost rough sound to it, definately a welcome change to the digitalized popshit we are used to...the most amazing thing about this album is sam's ability to take a simple three chord song and make it sound amazing. the guitar work is accented by a quiet almost whispering voice that demands your attention. good songs y'all should listen to on this cd- lions mane and faded from the winter stand out as the best....also, the rejects from the recording session of this cd made it onto his EP the sea and the rhythm, if you can find that as well take a listen its even better, just shorter and harder to find. if you enjoyed the music from garden state or are a fan of nice quiet music, check this out.
