tiki/polynesian ideas needed

Nov 11, 2006 13:25

Hi, I'm new here. I've got some tattoos now, but I'm looking to get a tiki/polynesian style tattoo and I can't find any good ideas. Help if you can, please! Most tattoos of tikis are too cartoony. I want a more realistic looking one. I'm going to be getting it on my calf, which is already mostly done, but I have a big space waiting.

When I look up 'polynesian tattoo' I get serious cultural results; when I type in 'tiki' it goes tattoojohnny.com cartoon-y.

By 'Tiki' do you mean wooden man-like sculptures or WWII polynesian souvenir style images?

I mean, actual, Tiki art. Wooden sculptures (or the stone easter island ones). I definitely don't want cartoony. I'd like to get it with some sort of polynesia flowers/accents around it.

Because so many of them have their own meanings (esp. it seems if the tiki is a carving of a Polynesian God) you might want to find the tiki carving you most like and then have a tattoo artist draw it out for you.

There is also artwork that resembles tiki carvings, done on tapa, that might be inspiring. Third and fourth images from top left
