June Book Club Review: Time and Again

Jul 03, 2007 13:21

Time and Again, by Jack Finney was June's book. I loved it. I'm a huge fan of time travel anyway, but this book also managed to give me a really good view of 1880s NYC. There were pictures from that time period and the same view in the 1970s (when the book was written) to show the difference. It amazes me that there were farms on Manhattan and no sky scrappers. While I was reading the book, I went to NYC and just walking around I took a good look at the buildings and could spot ones that were there 100+ years ago and it just amazes me. For all that Times Square and all the skyscrapers are amazing, the older buildings have a beauty that just isn't present in today's architure.

I also loved that he took events from the real 1880s NYC and intertwined them into the story. I love history almost as much as I love time travel books, so smash them together and *BAM* I'm a happy camper. :)

All in all, A+ for the book. I would recommend this to any one who likes history, romance, adventure, sci-fi or NYC.

Since everyone who wanted to pick a book has had a chance, I am now starting the cycle over again and I am picking July's book: In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. Enjoy!
