I haven't been posting much lately, so I thought I'd get caught up now.
1. I love Battlestar Galactica. And, contrary to what
whowantscookies thinks, I happen to like Helo. Sure, he's simple and you kind of want to pat him on the head and tell him he's pretty, but I like him regardless.
2. Just a big thanks to Cinemax for screening all the StarWars movies back to back this weekend. Saved me the trouble of putting the DVDs into my player. Not that I watched episodes 1-3 (yecht!) I actually saw the last 10 minutes of Ep. 3 and I have to say, I forgot how bad it was. I actually threw up a little in my mouth at the bad acting. Such a disappointment! Thank god for the original 3.
3. I'm behind on posting book reviews, so you get the short-short version.
a. Sing It To Her Bones, Marcia Talley. The first thing I noticed about this was the big print! It reminded me of when you'd increase your margins and font size in school just to get to that last page you needed for your 20 page minimum paper. :) Easy read, enjoyable, totally predictable murder mystery set in Southern Maryland (and written by a Marylander, so the details are correct). Protaganist solves a murder while dealing with her recovery from breast cancer (which the author had), her lack of a job and her potentially cheating husband. Grade: B-
b. Final Jeopardy, Linda Fairstein. Again, murder mystery. The protagonist is a sex crimes prosecuter in NYC who is trying to figure out who killed the famous friend of hers who was "hiding" out in the protagonist's summer house. The author is a sex crimes prosecuter in real life, and she wrote all about them. The sex crime cases had nothing to do with the plot line and I didn't enjoy reading about women being raped and the aftermath of that. It disturbs me, so this made me enjoy the book considerably less. Again, predictible, easy read. Grade: C
c. Emma, Jane Austen. I had a hard time getting into this because the main character, Emma, annoyed me so much! She was such a snob! I know, I know, that's the point, but it was hard for me to get past. It wasn't until 150 pages in that I started to enjoy it. Not my favorite Austen novel, and not the best romance out there either, but a funny little book and not a bad way to pass the time, but I could just watch the movie and get the main gist of it in less time. Grade: B+
